Ontra Stone Concepts Passionate, precise, and creative fabricators and installers of natural stone And then took a job on the People’s Bank Building in downtown Bridgeport. Period.

Buddy Ontra, Founder

I picked up my first piece of granite in February of 1982 in Houston Texas while working for Continental Marble and Granite. For the next four years, I went from helper to apprentice to journeyman stone setter and worked on over 300 stories in the Houston area, including managing the stock on the 65-story Transco tower. I returned to Connecticut in the summer of 1986, briefly

worked as a tile contractor from an old station wagon. (I’m not sure which big bank owns that now)
Then I took a job with a local fabricator, one of only four fabricators in the state at the time. In 2005, I started Ontra Stone Concepts, LL. in Monroe, CT and in 2012 moved to our current location in Bridgeport, CT. I use modern technology but practice and old school philosophy – focus on detail and customer service. We keep our crew at around ten to keep the focus on quality and I oversee every one of my jobs to ensure that the quality and craftsmanship are nothing short of excellent, and that my customers are thrilled with their new granite kitchen counter, bathroom, marble fireplace or special project

P.S. We also do Kitchen Backsplashes, Marble Walls and Flooring.

Wrapping up this beautiful new home with some brilliant new additions.

The kitchen is a stunning quartzite known as Azzura Bay. Underneath the range backsplash is a channel for a light strip, which will surely bring a touch of drama to this inviting space. Care was taken to ensure that the stone veins flowed from the countertops up the splashes, including polishing the back of the slab to make the range splash and ledge flow congruently.

The 8” thick mitered and vein-matched powder vanity is a special violet and verde marble called Breccia Capraia, and the family room bar - again with hidden integrated downlighting underneath the mitered ledge is a dramatic and dense polished marble named Bianco Stella.

This Carrara island was honed to two different sheens, changing at the seam.

The homeowner didn’t love it, as it was a pretty glaring difference from end-to-end, so we went in to hone it properly and fix the prior fabricator’s work.

The process involved encapsulating the kitchen within plastic walls to the ten-foot ceilings in the completely open floor plan, and honing the entire island by hand, as unobtrusively as possible.

The results speak for themselves, and when complete, it was if we were never there.

Not all fabricators are created equally.

This video includes Joe picking up the waterfall panels to bring from Washington State back to Manhattan for installation; the final piece to the puzzle in the Time Warner waterfall.
Also includes some beautiful hand carving of a very special award for work with the Gary Sinise Foundation, which is near and dear to our hearts.
Enjoy!

Looking closely at the photos we just posted (as I do!), you’ll see that the homeowner had a couple of acrylic rectangles created - with mitered “lips” that hang over the front edge of the countertops - to save their marble from hot oil splatters landing on the counters and having to poultice out stains.

There are ways to make a beautiful marble less “frightening” in the kitchen, resulting in less maintenance and concern when living and cooking in the home.

We’ve suggested the acrylic barriers before, and it’s nice to see them in action.

Here are the *almost* complete "after" photos of a special kitchen finished this past autumn.
(Range hood still needs to be painted).
The stone is a spectacular honed Statuario Venato marble that the homeowner chose after an extensive search.

Fully-mitered to 2" thick, island with waterfall ends, splashes to the ceiling - including a range wall splash created from a full slab - resulting in a kitchen that must be difficult to leave...

Can’t get over some of the beautiful design choices in this kitchen and bath we recently fabricated and installed for .

Kitchen stone is Jurassic Grey granite; main bath dressed in honed Rosa Aurora Macchia Vecchia marble.

Outfitting a remodel with these kinds of finishes and seeing it all come together makes what we do endlessly enjoyable.
