We all know living in Minnesota, winter is coming and there are a few things that can be done for your well and water lines that will help you enjoy it just a little bit more.

1. If you have heat tape on your water line, now is the time to make sure it is working properly and that it is insulated well and the Minnesota cold air is not going to get to it. Lets face it no one wants to do that chore in -20 below temps.

2. Make sure your well is clearly mark with reflectors or some kind of barrier that will stick out above the snow. You don't want to be clearing snow and get that hard hit, or enjoying a snowmobile ride and feel that bump. Running into your well unintentionally can be a costly mistake.

3. If you have a pump house, make sure that it is well insulated and has plenty of heat at ground level. You don't want to cause a fire, but you also do not want cold air getting into your pump house from the ground or through the walls. We want those pressure tanks and water lines nice and cozy to make sure you keep your water this winter.

4. Try to avoid walking or driving on your water lines, this will drive the frost down and later in the season could cause your water lines to freeze.

5. Try to avoid removing snow that is covering your water lines. Even a small amount of snow that is undisturbed is helping insulate the ground and can help keep your water lines from freezing.

6. If you do want to take an extra step to avoid frozen water lines, laying down some straw over your water lines will help insulate the ground and can help avoid freeze up.

We all want to stay nice and warm this winter, even your friendly water lines.

Lets help out the plow trucks this winter:

Hello home owners, cabin owners and business owner. We all know the "S" word is coming and there are a few things that can be done to help the snow removal company and your self keep water flowing this winter. Please use markers that are high enough and visible enough to mark your well head and avoid a costly repair. If your well is in a parking lot please make sure you use strong and visible barriers around your well. The snow removal companies, do not know where your well is, nor will they be able to see it in the dark or under the snow. Let all help each other out this winter and keep everyone with water and no costly repairs.

Hello home owners with mobile homes and or modular homes. As we all know this is probably going to be another frigid winter and the possibility of little snow this year could be what we face. To help make sure that you have consistent water this winter, take the time now to do some maintenance and preparation. Make sure that the well line leading to your home has a properly working heat tape. Also Make sure the heat tape and the water line are properly insulated and wrapped well, so that no air can get to them. Cold blowing air is not a water lines friend. Other steps to take to make sure that you have water all winter is to make sure you are not walking or driving on the water lines, this will drive frost down farther and can cause water lines to freeze. We advise not to remove snow over water lines if at all possible either by plowing or shoveling, as this removes the insulating snow and will also allow the frost to drive down deeper. If necessary, put a nice layer of straw down to help insulate the water line in the event of little snow and fringed temperatures. We hope everyone enjoys their winter and no water is no fun.

Hello to all Seasonal Cabin owners and Plumbers. It is that time of year again and we would like to remind you of the proper way to winterize if your wells has a drain down installed. Below you will find out how to do this.

How to Drain your seasonal cabin if you have a drain down in your well:

You or your plumber must install a blow down valve after the well shut off valve. This will allow you or your plumber to properly drain your plumbing for the season.

To properly drain the well and then your plumbing lines, follow the steps below.

1. Turn the power off to the well and leave it off.
2. Open the boiler drain and drain the pressure tank to zero.
3. Once water is out of the tank, close the boiler drain.
4. Shut the valve off to the well. (This is the last step to the shut down of the well for the season.)
5. Plumber or yourself then connects air hose to the blow down valve to drain the plumbing lines for the season.
6. Once the lines are blown out follow what ever other steps you prefer to finish.
