This kitchen island project is finally done and moved to its new home. I’m greatful for the opportunity to build this piece of furniture that hopefully lasts a lifetime.

The base is made from knotty white pine and birch veneer plywood. It was colored with a diluted black paint wash and finished with water based polyurethane.

The top is over 100 strips of hickory glued together to make a very beautiful (and heavy) butcher block style countertop. I finished with several coats of water based polyurethane applied with Hvlp gun.

I learned a lot on this project and couldn’t be more proud. Thanks for checking it out!

I forgot to post final pics of our dining table I built until now. The white oak is beautiful and I love the design my wife picked out. We still have to get a couple of chairs to put on the ends, but we have already been enjoying eating dinner together!
