I've been a professional event planner for over ten years, and I can't emphasize organization enough. Even when you think you've mastered all the various moving parts involved in planning large events, the make-or-break can arrive in the form of little things like a simple check list, a list of emergency contact numbers for the day-of, or a simple analog way to backup your check-in process if for any reason your technology fails.

Here's a great infographic showing some of the things you might find on an Event Planner's Emergency Kit checklist that can be helpful on the day of a big event. But, this is just an example. I always like to tailor these lists to my clients' specific needs, and the type of event I'm planning. If you're making your own list, remember to think outside the box and approach it from all angles to make sure you don't miss anything!

It was the first public event held in the newly renovated space at the Boston Public Library downtown, and the event was the perfect marriage between local government and Boston's amazing technology community.
