Somewhere in the Middle/ LaRue Cribbage Table
36”x36”20”

Check out the details behind this one-of-a-kind coffee table I was honored to create for Somewhere In The Middle Coffee Shop. Handcrafted in honor of the owner's father's 75th birthday, this table was a labor of love from start to finish.

At a sturdy 36 inches in diameter, this table houses a smaller, 20-inch diameter insert that's not just a tabletop but a heartwarming tribute. One side showcases the coffee shop's logo, beautifully inlaid with epoxy resin. Flip it over, and you will find a circular 120-hole cribbage board.

Ryan, it was a pleasure to create this piece for your father and your cherished coffee shop. I've always believed that our spaces should tell stories, and I can't think of a better tale than the love of a son and the shared bond over a timeless game.

The shop is currently sprucing up its seating area (exciting things on the way!), but don't forget to swing by later this summer to see the piece. Trust me, their breakfast burritos are worth the wait, and please, use a coaster!

Some of my best work yet and after months it's finally completed. Measuring 79"x38", the walnut slab top comes directly from Iowa State's campus. It was cut down to make room for Buchanan Hall. It had been drying out in an old barn until a professor and I went and wrestled it out. I then flattened it on the CNC, filled the voids, and sanded until my arms fell off. This slab has so much figure and turned out being a beautiful top!

The legs are reclaimed C-channel from an old trailer that was used to haul mat mover machines across the state of Iowa. Being so weathered made welding them up a little tricky, but these thing are sturdy and this table is not going anywhere! So much character in this peice. @ Des Moines, Iowa

Baltic Birch Plywood End Grain Vase. Cut on the CNC - the profiles are stacked to create a "seamless" wrap of end grain around the vase. In my opinion the rounded edges are the most interesting part. The grains of the plies are glued together perpendicular to increase strength and dimensional stability. The difference in color you see between plies is the same wood, but one is cut with the grain and one across. If you look closely at the rounded edges you can see the individual plies shift from light to dark or vice versa as the cut switches grain direction. This is a really neat example how that works. Available on my Facebook shop is anyone is interested in getting their hands on one. @ Des Moines, Iowa

Custom end table with walnut tops and 1.5 inch raw angle iron frame. It was my first large resin inlay and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. My old man and I had a lot of great times hanging out at the Shull family's house on Table Rock Lake. Really happy I got to make this for them! Chip Shull
