Proper seating is key to keeping students comfortable and focused. Chairs of incorrect size often cause slouching, may restrict blood flow, and can just be generally uncomfortable- all of which can lead to neck and back pain, as well as distraction from learning.

Things to look for:
💠Feet First: Feet should always touch the floor flat in rigid seating. If the chair is too high, their legs will dangle. If it is too low, their knees will be pushed too high. Adjust the chair height so the hips are slightly higher than the knees.
💠The Knee Gap: Check that there is a gap of about two to three fingers' width between the edge of the seat and the back of the knees when seated. This prevents restricted blood flow.
💠Back Support: The lower part of the chair should curve forward to hug the lower back. Lumbar support helps the spine keep its natural "S" shape and stops slouching.
💠Active Sitting: Static, rigid sitting makes bodies stiff. Look for chairs with a slight rocking motion, a swivel base, or flexible seats (like wobble stools) to help send blood and oxygen to the brain, which can improve focus.
