12 HARD MILES — THE FINAL MILE
HARD MILE #12 — Freedom Is Built One Mile at a Time
We started this series with a simple statement:
Freedom has a price.
Eleven Hard Miles later, we’ve talked about revenue, profit, cash flow, expenses, cheap loads, discipline, your van, your numbers—and the difference between being busy and actually building a business.
Now we arrive at the reason behind all of it.
Freedom.
But freedom isn’t one great load.
It isn’t one profitable week.
It isn’t buying a van, quitting your job, or calling yourself your own boss.
Freedom is built gradually.
One profitable decision.
One load you had the discipline to reject.
One unnecessary mile you didn’t drive.
One customer you treated well.
One dollar you didn’t waste.
One lesson you learned from a mistake.
One day when you wanted to quit—but chose instead to understand what wasn’t working and fix it.
That’s how freedom is built.
One mile at a time.
Over these 12 posts, I’ve tried to share some of the principles I’ve learned on the road and incorporated into Hard Miles.
But these twelve lessons are only the beginning.
Behind them are thousands of actual miles, mistakes, negotiations, customers, long days, unexpected expenses, victories, disappointments—and the business lessons that came from all of them.
That’s why I wrote Hard Miles: What No One Tells You Before Starting a Cargo Van Business.
Not to promise easy money.
Not to sell a dream.
But to help people understand the business before the business teaches those lessons the expensive way.
To everyone who followed these 12 Hard Miles, commented, shared a post, or quietly read along:
Thank you.
And if you’re just discovering the series today, go back to Hard Mile #1 and take the entire journey.
The series ends here.
The road doesn’t.
