One day when you wanted to quit—but chose instead to understand what wasn’t working and fix it.

That’s how freedom is built.

One mile at a time.

HARD MILE #11 — Know Your Numbers, Grow Your Business

You can work hard.

You can stay busy.

You can run hundreds of miles every week.

But if you don’t know your numbers, you’re still guessing.

And guessing is not a business strategy.

Do you know your true cost per mile?

Your deadhead percentage?

Your operating expenses?

Your gross revenue versus net profit?

How much each load actually contributes to your bottom line?

These numbers tell you something your feelings can’t:

whether your business is actually working.

Once you know them, your decisions change.

You know which loads to accept—and which ones to decline.

You negotiate from knowledge instead of desperation.

You recognize unnecessary miles.

You see where money is leaking.

And, most importantly, you can tell whether you’re building a business or simply creating a job for yourself.

The numbers don’t always tell you what you want to hear.

But they tell you what you need to know.

That’s why one of the most important principles in Hard Miles is simple:
