Originating from a small town in the green mountains of Vermont, I began a fine woodworking apprenticeship under a local master furniture maker, while still in high school. Upon completing the required 8000 hour apprenticeship program, I became the first to achieve Vermont State certification. My 5 year journeyman ship followed, beginning in Vermont and extending to Naples, FL. Finally, in 2004, m

y dream of being a Master came true when I opened my first shop in Naples, FL. In 2010, I expanded that dream by relocating back to the forests, this time, in the Western North Carolina town of Black Mountain. The Pieces
Fine furniture should be crafted to endure use over multiple lifetimes… to be passed on to future generations. Acting on that belief, each piece I make goes through an extensive series of time honored processes to achieve the highest quality standards. From thoughtfully selecting the finest lumber, to applying hand rubbed oil finishes, every step is carefully executed to ensure the finished piece is spectacular! Furthermore, all of my pieces are constructed using traditional mortise and tenon joinery, which maximizes wood strength, while forming pieces pleasing to the eye. Upon completion, each piece is signed, dated, and presented for the enjoyment of you and your family.

Hey now…I did a podcast! I joined Sean, Jeff, and Brian on the Modern Woodworkers Association Podcast a few weeks ago for a conversation about woodworking, my process, the multi-router, Charles Greene’s desk & some other things you only really learn by spending time at the bench…and the hardest skill to learn.

If you’d like to listen, I’ll put the link below in the comments. Big thanks to the guys for having me on!

Beyond happy on how this Round 1912 Roycroftish Dining Room Table came out! This is made in flat sawn Sapele with a dark brown stain.

Custom made for a client in Minneapolis and it also came from a recommendation from an antique dealer at the National Arts and Crafts Conference here in Asheville held at the Grove Park Inn every year.

Please reach out for pieces I may have avaliable in my showroom or to visit and help us with our move onto our land we are in the process of developing.

Thanks so much!
Happy Friday

What do ya think?!

This is what I did in Pittsburgh on my trip!
I installed a hutch in the room that I built and installed a little over a year ago.

Ebony bow tie inlays and mini Ebony " Brace" trees in the corners. Glass and hardware will be next . Wait till you see what this is going to look like soon!

So everyone knows , I know how to do built-in cabinets as I learned that trade in Naples Fl.
Cool thing is about once or twice a year I blend cabinets with high end furniture.

Can't wait to take the time to get some great photos but , hope you get the idea.

Thanks!

Has been an incredible crazy last 10 days or so but, so much has been done. I went up to East Aurora last weekend for Jury of Roycroft artisans and those hoping to become one. It was an epic time of Master Artisans that gather 1 day a year for this!
I stayed at the Roycroft Inn for the 2nd time which was amazing.

I then traveled to Pittsburgh which I will post next and installed a hutch in the room that I installed a fireplace and cabinets about 1 1/2 years ago.

Working on getting land things in order for next phase and , got a new phone as it was becoming a hassle with my old phone that was full to keep up on posts and things!

Busy week this week and starting a new job that is 2 cabinets going on each side of a fireplace here in Asheville area. Also finishing up and packing a Roycroft 48" round table .

Thanks everyone!
Brian

Some pieces carry more than function, they carry lineage. This is my reproduction version of an original Roycroft Little Journeys Table, tracing back to the early 1900s, from the Roycroft community founded by Elbert Hubbard. Originally tied to his Little Journeys publications, the design reflects the Arts and Crafts focus on solid materials and straightforward construction.

This piece is built from quartersawn oak, milled from a tree cut near Grove Park Inn. Through tenons are pinned with ebony keys, custom dyed stain with a hand rubbed lacquer finish.

Available now. Message for details.

Today marks the birthday of Gustav Stickley(1958-1942), one of the central figures of the American Arts & Crafts movement.

Stickley believed furniture should be built with integrity. The joinery visible, the materials respected, the form shaped by function. His work helped define what we now called the American Craftsman style. Simple, strong forms, meant to celebrate the beauty of the wood itself.

One of the designs most closely associated with his legacy is the Morris chair. Stickley‘s early 1900s version refined the form into something sturdy, comfortable and unmistakenly American. Wide arms, solid wood, with a structure that felt both practical and enduring.

That philosophy continues to shape the way many of us, including myself approach furniture today. The idea that materials matter. That construction of each piece begins with selecting the finest lumber, constructing with traditional mortise and tenon joinery to maximize strength and beauty.

I had the honor of being featured in the 2021 documentary, American Craftsman, about Stickley‘s life and influence. His work has long been part of the conversation in my shop, and occasionally I still build more traditional pieces that represent his legacy.

Stickly helped shape the language of American furniture more than a century ago. And for furniture makers like myself, that conversation continues.
