I've been working on this project for 3 years now. This client wanted a tropical Oasis feel around her pool. It's been a tremendous effort and a lot of maintenance but we succeeded big time.

Before and after of a large install in Lake Worth. This customer was looking for a privacy screen along one fence line and something to break up a large white north facing wall. We chose Nellie R Stevens hollies for privacy and a combination of Ruby slippers oak leaf hydrangea, pittosporum and a large Japanese maple for a specimen.

Just finished the first phase of one my largest installs yet! This is a total xeriscape design that I put together for a client interested in native plants with low water requirements. We finished it off with 17 tons of stone for a really cool look. I'll update in the spring when we fill in with lots of native perennials for some great color.

Still doing some fall planting. Elephant garlic to harvest possibly as early as next year, more than likely 2 years though. And lettuce seed. The cold will get the lettuce but it comes up fast and who knows, I may get a harvest before it gets real cold again.

Here is an example of how fickle plants can be. These 2 cauliflower plants are right beside each other. One looks very unhappy while the other appears unfazed

The hottest September I can remember was quickly followed by a very early frost then a very early hard freeze (22) here in Benbrook. Even hardy plants like my Swiss chard were hit hard by it. But don't despair, most of these winter hardy veggies just need some time and they'll bounce back. Mine's already trying 😃

Red Russian kale will grow and produce leaves all winter long. I've actually had this even live through a Texas summer a few times. I'm not personally the biggest fan of eating kale, but my chickens, rabbit and tortoise all seem to love it.

My tomatoes are still producing like crazy. They always slow down in the worst of the summer heat but as long as you keep the plants alive, they'll reward you with stellar fall production. Now just to hope for a late first frost....

Hi, I'm Tim Lewis. I'm a horticulturist who's been working in the gardening and landscaping industry for the last 15 years. Raised beds allow perfect control of the soil content which helps with nutrient availability and moisture control. All that really means is that it's easier and you're more likely to have success in your endeavor.
