Getting back in the swing of things! It's been a wild few...well, all of 2020. But art is still being made, and that counts!

I was doing some cleaning after coming back into town from evacuating due to Hurricane Laura and found this older piece - After not seeing it for a while, I like it a lot. Sometimes putting some distance between pieces can help gain a new perspective on them.

Hope y'all are doing well! Remember - keep washing your hands, wearing a mask when you need to and practicing social distancing when necessary.

Hey guys I wanted to share with you another logo design I created for this area a few years back before I was with the Mont. I made it for Diamond Sports Bar and Grill. I don't think I ever shared this on social media before so I'm sharing it now. I was hired by the same owners of the previous logo design I posted for Seoul Food Korean BBQ. This Bar is in Port Arthur off FM 365. It has been a great pleasure working with the owners over the years and its great to see the progress of their businesses. Even in these times. Creating strong logos and brands for businesses like this is something I have great passion for.

Hey guys! I wanted to share a recent logo design that I created for Seoul Food Korean BBQ Restaurant. The building is currently being constructed next to the Saltgrass in Port Arthur! Looks fantastic! Was super fun working with the owners and its always a great experience generating these new logo concepts for them! Check it out!

This commission is now shipped off, but before I sent it off I made sure to document it well - and before I show off the full piece I wanted to share another close up that I really like!

I feel like the color, texture and shapes play together really well in this part of the piece - And you can probably guess what its of from this one if you really try.

I'm stoked about how this piece turned out!

What are you working towards this week? Remember to wash your hands, wear a mask when you need to and stay safe out there!

When Kanye meets Tesla.

Next stage of the process. Analysis on proximities’ influence on subject matter, visual narratives, and composition.

Proximity is one of Gestalt’s Theories of Visual Psychology. It states that objects and shapes that are close to one another appear to form groups and the viewer assigns a relationship to the whole group.

In my work individual prints are designed to represent the initial subject matter and function as their own concepts. This is the first level. When placed in close proximity to other designs new narratives are created that draw on cultural influences that are inherent in each work. This taps into existing preconceptions of the viewer drawing notice to viewers role in the artistic creative process. Depending on the viewers environmental/ cultural upbringing the interpretation of the work changes.

Pentimenti is a term in fine that occurs when we can see the changes and corrections an artist makes that is revealed in the surface of a painting. The term in Latin means “the artist repents.” Some artists choose to show this to people in order to show the process that went into making the work.

It’s a little different for woodcuts, if you make a mistake in carving a block, there is almost nothing you can do to correct it. Once you carve away a section of the block that’s it. You either go with your mistake (which I usually do) or if it’s something that can’t be overlooked you start over and carve another.

This is what happened with a recent block of mine that was a portrait of Elon Musk. The first image I carved I made a lot of mistakes. I didn’t like how I treated the contours of the face and most importantly I totally got his right eye wrong. I wanted him looking up into space, but it looks upon first impression that he has a lazy eye. I couldn’t fix this so I decided to carve a second block which I was much more happier with.

As an artist you will make mistakes, it’s that experience form those mistakes that you learn from.

This print is for sale if you’re interested.

Another sold piece! Thank you to Kinza for snagging this one.

Every now and then I do a few more cat illustrations or paintings, and this year they've been really popular! I still have a few from the original series I did that I'd like to give homes, so just get with me if you're interested!

I like creating little worlds for these small friends to live in, it's always a really nice time to experiment and play around with different techniques.

Hope you've had a good week!

Framed and ready for its buyer!

I was super lucky and remembered that I had this vintage wooden frame when Jake bought this piece. I'm really excited about how it looks in the frame!

Hope you're all doing well as we move into rainy season! Remember, stay safe, wear a mask when you need to and wash your hands!

New block called “Trump with Mask.”

Prints are 20”x20”
Limited edition of 5.
Hand carved and burnished.
90lbs legion Stonehenge archival paper.

Been wanting to do a Trump block for so long and was waiting for the right pose and subject to start with.

Seems to be one of the issues of popular debate now in regards to mask wearing.

Me personally I wear masks accordingly. I know that masks don’t protect you from the virus completely 100% ( it even says that on most of the packages) but I do realize that they are nessary to reducing the spread of the virus because they reduce the risk of being exposed to particles that may contain the virus. Although I hate wearing masks personally because I find it hard to breathe while wearing them and I notice I touch the mask more on my face which I imagine isn’t good either, it just irritates my face.

I still wear it regardless whether the virus is real or imagined according to what side you’re on.

I found it interesting that Trump started to wear masks now considering his stance on the virus. I feel his war with the media influenced his initial reaction to the virus and his stubbornness kept him from wearing one so long.

I feel this is an important shift in how we view our individual safety within America nowadays in combating the virus. There are a myriad amount of information sources ( the whitehouse, the president, the media, social media) that constantly put out conflicting data. Who do you believe? What do you believe? Do you ostracize someone if they believe something different? Do you ridicule people until they believewhat you believe? I feel like these are important times that we are going though now in order to for our social conscious to evolve as a culture, nation, and species.

Soo. Here is the thing. I’ve made this woodblock as a reaction to this. Would you purchase a print knowing the subject matter involved?

If you’re interested DM me.
