Maybe the best unknown story I’ve been able to work on. The “Trotline 9” was shot alongside the Tallahatchie River 5-7 years ago. When he was shot, it had these trotlines wrapped around his antlers. Hooks and leaders littering his rack. There were cockaburs and briars stuck in the lines. It leaves so many interesting questions. Was it just an old Trotline when he was hatted with it? Or was it a new one with some 3 pound catfish on it that he had to now tote through the woods? Funny as it may seem, this is also an interesting view of mankind’s effects on nature. This deer was probably ready to shed his antlers the minute he was crowned with the trotline(especially if fish were hanging on it). He was inconvenienced by an action of a human, and in the end, a human harvested him. This skull is a storybook that I can’t open, and it’s gonna be hard to come across another one that holds so much meaning while it’s marinated with mystery. Favorite project yet. Time to put him on the wall. 🦌
