After moving twice since Fall of 2023, I have set up shop overlooking the Baraboo River, in one of Baraboo's oldest historic buildings. The workbench view overlooks one one the nicest rapids on the Baraboo River.
I will always be a chairmaker, but after 25 years, my energy is better put to use reconditioning and refinishing quality wooden family heirlooms. I've worked on a variety of furniture types from 18th century, to Craftsman, Stickley style, Midcentury Modern- tables, chairs, benches, cabinets, the list goes on...
I will examine your project and if it is worth fixing, give you an estimate. If it's a poorly constructed chair or table designed from the beginning to be thrown out within a few years, (planned obsolescence) the cost is not worth it. However, there are many hand me downs from past generations that were designed to last 50 years or more. (planned resilience-or true craftsmanship). Often these can be renewed and given another few decades.
I will post before and after photos of some of the projects I have completed just in the last year. If you are inspired to bring in Granny's Rocking chair, I'll do my best to get it in shape to handle the next few decades.
The Bank Teller's cabinet shown below was one that graced our kitchen near Rock Springs for several years. It was finished on all sides with frame and panel oak (and pine) and had a pretty scarred up top. When we moved, I gave it new oak drawer fronts, rebuilt the drawer guides and gave it a new Elm top which went beautifully with the aged oak finish.
