Amethyst Honu Flippers

Amethyst Honu Flippers Hi I'm Jen! I have been "flipping" furniture for years, mostly out of necessity as a single mom. Now my kids are grown, and I still love to do it!

I'm kicking it up a notch to keep beautiful vintage pieces out of the dump. Follow along on my journey!

I have company coming so I had to clear out my dining room workshop lol. I still need to poly the wood drawer (and possibly lighten it up) to get it a bit glossier. This is the first time I’ve used pole wrap. I had a LOT of trial and error on this piece - I may keep it just for that fact! Anyone have any CONSTRUCTIVE criticism? 🙂

The difference between flipping for fun and flipping professionally is how much extra work and care you put into each piece. Where I used to just clean, paint and go, now I’m cleaning, sanding, repairing, priming, finding more things that need to be repaired, paint - oh no, how did I miss that ding?! - repair (again) sand, paint, seal. Little things that I could live with, scream out at me to be fixed. Currently I have 3 flips going, as each is in their own stage. I don’t have a workshop (yet!) so I have limited space to work. The warm days were great, I got to set up my paint tent outside which is wonderful!

Also, going from fun to pro, I look at each piece differently now. This has been a learning curve for me! I look at the piece and envision what I’d like to do - so far, I’ve changed my mind with each piece! (With the exception of the humidor) I’ve picked up pieces thinking “these will be easy flips!” and none of them have been. 🙄😂 I’m learning, I’m enjoying, and hopefully I’ll be selling.

I have to give a little sneak peek at one of the projects I’m working on. When I purchased this dresser, I didn’t have a lot of hope for it. It had been sitting out on the sellers porch for quite a while. I love MCM though, so I took a chance. My plan was to stain the top and just give it a nice paint job. As I started to scuff sand the drawers, I realized the wood veneer underneath looked pretty nice, so I decided to sand a little further. I decided to finish up removing the paint with acetone because I really don’t want to wreck this veneer. Look at how BEAUTIFUL this is! I’ve still got some work to do to get paint out of the little grooves before I can stain. There were 3 tiny little chips that I had to fix, and I was going to just Bondo them, and then changed my mind. Thank goodness I did! I wouldn’t have been able to stain these absolutely gorgeous drawers.

Thankful for the sunshine!!

Today is a repair, clean and prep day. I don’t have a ton of time today, but I want to get what I can done. The repair I’m doing on this dresser has been in pieces. You can see the water damage that caused the wood to pull away and partially break. First step, I wood glued what I could, taped and clamped it. It was in an awkward place for the clamp, but where there is a will, there’s a way! Today was Bondo day. I am going to paint this, so I used Bondo to fix the area that was broken. I will let it dry and then sand it into shape and I’ll be able to paint it and you will never know! (Well, YOU will) 😂

Ok, so all of you amazing folks started following me….and then I went on vacation. And came back sick…And now I’m working two jobs for the month of March! 🙄 BUT! I AM working on a few things - because I need to make room in my house!! 😂😂😂 Here is what I’m working on tonight. I bought these 2 end tables with a specific vision in mind. Then I changed my mind. Tell me what you think - be honest! (Just not mean lol)
