I bought this door 3 years ago from the architectural salvage shop Aurora Mills - Originally from the very first University of Oregon “University Apartments”. I love this door so much, and it felt appropriate to make it a “saloon” spring hinge door. This will not only act as entry into my furniture fabrication studio, but also double as part of my finished photography wall.

The final will include: door handle holes covered with a hand-hammered brass plate, hand-made old growth cherry door trim, with venetian plaster walls.

Door size: 99.125” tall X 41.625” wide.

A little something out of my wheelhouse. However, I’m not one to shy away from a challenge.

I was given the opportunity to reproduce 4 replicas from an original Gustav Stickley dining chair. The original was fabricated between 1905 - 1913. While this chair looks fairly easy to fabricate, I can attest that this design broke my spirit on several occasions. The original chair wasn’t symmetrical, the stain and leather was aged with patina. I easily fabricated enough parts to build another four chairs.

Short and sweet background on this chair. The current / second owner is 80 years old. His mother originally traded in her previous dining set for the Stickley set in the early 1900s. With my additional four chairs there is now a total of 10 chairs, and a very large original Stickley dining table.

I’m not one to replicate designs, or build Mission-style furniture.. but overall I’m happy with the outcome. I only hope I made Gustav proud.

American quarter-sawn white oak. Leather from a Montana rancher. Tacks were sourced via Amazon.

Was reminded yesterday to clean and maintain my workboots. Red Wing Iron Ranger boots. Going on 4019 days since purchased these. Thats over ELEVEN years. Could hardly afford them at the time, but I’m sure glad I bought em. Although the sole have been changed and I now wear custom orthotics.. Firm believer of - Buy Once, Cry Once.

Delivery day in Hayden Lake, Idaho. With extra curricular activities.

Oregon black walnut harvested in Oregon wine country. Air dried since 1983. Oregon white oak from my backyard, and fumed hammered brass and Texas tanned leather.

Inside sits an elevator with a decanter and four glasses.

After 9 years I scattered Dads ashes. He now permanently rests under this black walnut tree in our front yard. I’ve had the tree almost 10 years now. It’s moved to three locations, and has almost died twice. After the last transplant 4 years ago it seems to be living its best life, but stunted in growth for sure. Although it won’t be in my lifetime.. but hopefully somebody will build something with the tree one day. Ashes are full of minerals, and I’m certain that the tree will be full of colorful mineral deposits on the interior. Just like my Dad. The ID badge attached to the tree was on his remains, and it will eventually be absorbed into the tree. Thus making an interesting surprise for the sawyer 😂 - Rest easy Dad 🙏🏼
