Repair, Restore or Preserve? That's a question that we are often asked, so I will attempt to answer without spending half a day.
First off, we take into account the Clients desires, what is it they expect to take home? But just as Important is the Piece itself, is it Historical, Unique or in some way Something that shouldn't be touched, and if that's the case where is the proof and documentation as well as what is the current value vs the value if repaired/restored/preserved? IS this something the owner is considering selling, and will the r/r/p bring more value or lower it?
If we repair it, will the repair blend into the original condition it was brought to us in, and will it hold up for years to come?
If we restore it, using proper procedures and materials, ensuring it lasts another 20,30,50 or even 100+ years, will it maintain value as well as History and memories? Do those things matter on this particular Piece?
Is the Piece Important and Historical enough to put in the time and skill needed to Preserve and keep it "as is" for another 20-100 years for those that demand Original?
I know I haven't answered all the questions or even given 1/100th of the reasons Each and Every Piece has it's own Individual requirements to determine whether a Repair, Restoration or Preservation is best for It and the Client/Owner.
Here at Family Restorations, we work with you so that when it comes Home again, it's Exactly what You Wanted.
