June 1st feels like a great day to announce a new candle! But first, a little trip down memory lane. Our very first candle in our original lineup, was No. 1 FRONT PORCH, and it was only here for a very brief couple months when we opened in August 2018. It was a cut grass scent, very light and very fresh. I didn’t have it around long because in those first months after opening, a few other candles had proven more popular, so I hastily assumed that nobody liked the grassy candle, and I decided to get rid of it. A few years later, I had somebody ask if we were ever going to make that candle again, and that they’d been patiently waiting for it to return. I was surprised, but figured as I’d only had one request up until then, that it probably was not worth my time to resurrect it. But, over time, more and more requests for a fresh cut grass scented candle had come in, and we started to think it was time. Now, back to the present. As I’ve grown older, I’ve come to adore gardening and I really respect soil health, regenerative farming, pollinator habitats, and all that good for the Earth stuff more and more, and one thing that makes me sad is how dandelions get such a bad rap. The responsibility of having a “weed free” lawn is instilled early, and sadly dandelions are a casualty. But, they’re an amazing little flower known for incredible health benefits and they’re edible from petal to root! They’re loaded with vitamins A C and K, their thick tap roots are excellent for naturally aerating lawns by breaking up compact soil, and those roots are essential for pulling nutrients up to the surface topsoil. Plus, as my youngest daughter and I like to say, the dandelion is the flower that starts as the sun, ends as the moon, and then drifts away like little stars ☀️ 🌖 ✨ That said, we can’t deny our love of that fresh summer scent after a good lawn trim. So, as a nod to our love of summer and those sunny little blossoms, please welcome No. 51 DANDELION! Fresh cut grass, white tea and earthy greenery come together to perfectly bring the summery outside indoors, and we hope you love this new version of our original grassy candle!

It’s that time of year when you start seeing all the tomato candles pop up. It’s weird, right? Why do we as humans gravitate so hard to a tomato candle? I think it’s the nostalgia. ✨ Picture it (waves hand slowly through air).
✨ It’s August of 1989, and my new purple jellies are sparkling like diamonds. It’s crazy hot as I furiously sidewalk chalk an impossible hopscotch maze in the driveway. I realize I need to hydrate if this masterpiece is going to be completed, so I head to the back yard where my mom is gardening to get a drink. The metallic tang from the end of the hose doesn’t deter me, and I drink like it’s my first time encountering water. I come up for air and a little hose water goes up my nose and I jump back. Water gets in my jellies and I’m not a fan of how that feels, so I take them off to dry and while they do so I walk through the cool grass of the back yard to see what my mom is up to. Her skin is brown and her pink visor with Orlando embroidered across the front in lime green keeps her face shaded as she kneels down next to the tomato plants. She brought the radio out and Phil Collins is singing about a Sussudio. I don’t know what that is, but it’s a good song. Her arms have now completely disappeared deep into the jungle of scratchy stems and fuzzy leaves. The smell of garden soil, fresh cut grass, and other herbs close by linger in the warm air around the garden as she twists big red fruits from the rough stems. Sometimes when I ask for a snack, she’ll bring me a thick slice of tomato with salt and pepper. I always groan a bit and tell her I was thinking more along the lines of ice cream, but I have to admit the salt and pepper tomato is actually pretty tasty stuff. She stands up and brushes the dirt from her knees, and gives me a sweaty squeeze. Her tank top smells like sunshine and tomato plants. My jellies are dry now so I head back out to the driveway. I’m pretty sure I can add at least five or six more squares to the end of this hopscotch. They’ll write stories of its greatness. I can still smell the tomato plant on my shirt from the hug and I think maybe I’ll ask for a snack.

Books refreshed and rearranged…until a new shipment arrives in a couple days and I do it all over again :) Not pictured off to the right, a whole new collection of sketch pads, pens, charcoals, colored pencils, oil pastels and of course watercolors for the visual poets out there who may have lost their artistic spark, but are looking to create once again :) They will all be online next week, but if you’re local, it’s all on the shelf’s now!
Open 9-5 🤍

I’m taking a break from weeping tears of joy over the Artemis II space shuttle voyage around my beloved Moon to show you this cute little shop. I’m pretty sure Christina Koch was looking right at our spot on the corner when she described the Earth as astronomically beautiful. Come see what Christina sees. Open 10-6 🤍
