Yesterday, Timberland Helicopters, Inc., an Ashland-based charter helicopter company, had the unique opportunity to assist in the recovery of a NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration spacecraft. This spacecraft, which had been in space for several years, was part of NASA's Osiris-Rex mission. The mission, which began in 2016, aimed to collect samples from an asteroid that orbits the sun closer than Earth. These samples are believed to offer insights into the early solar system and the origins of life on our planet.

Timberland Helicopters, Inc., which primarily conducts power line patrols, also engages in other complex operations such as firefighting. The company has an aircraft base in Utah, which was the landing site for the Osiris-Rex mission spacecraft.

Mark Gibson the President of Timberland, expressed his pride and excitement about being part of such a historic mission. He mentioned that this was the first mission of its kind and that everyone involved was thrilled with its success. Timberland played a crucial role in ensuring the safe retrieval and transportation of the collected samples back to NASA's facilities.

In a recent interview with the evening news KOBI-5, Mark shared his thoughts on the mission. He stated, "it’s the first time that this sort of mission has ever taken place, so it was definitely exciting to be a part of it. Our operations people out there, I think were pretty excited about it and just thrilled that we were part of it and that everything went very successfully…"
