Pretty good example of using snap line square rule on a bowed and twisted timber. This reduction will house a strut and its location in the plan shows it as centered on the rafter. The blue line denotes 2” from the arris, which is out in space on this timber.

We had an ugly hemlock knot in our haunch for the collar. I’ve been wanting to try a router jig and this is what I came up with. The base in my router is 12”, so i needed an inner support. Just a couple pulls with a japanese saw made quick work of that! The jig is loose to accomodate the twist in the timber. Works quite well, I must say!
