We are progressing on the slate stairs and pathway. It’s been fun to uncover 20+ years a growth that has taken over this beautiful side space at our home. The last picture is before we started.

We are dreaming up ideas for this space and trying to save as much of the slate as possible. Digging up smaller plants and moving them for natural borders is also a focus. We are also cleaning out the underbrush and deselecting trees and bushes so that others may thrive again.

A busy week is in store for us as school starts back tomorrow. New opportunities to learn, grow and push ourselves in new ways.

On our morning walk this guy was hanging out on the sidewalk. A little reminder for me to pay attention to the small things in life because they are beautiful too. Small things always lead to bigger things.

After the rain walks and taking notice of the changing driveway scape. The moss is vibrant after the rain and it always makes my heart happy.

These dogs love to sniff, smell and explore the area. Stretching our legs before we quiet down for the evening is very much needed. Added another piece of nature to my collection.

A quick rain storm was welcomed. The seasons are preparing to change. I love how August lingers and then quickly fades into my favorite month of September. I’m holding steady but secretly ready for the change.

Change is good. One step always leads to the next. Last week, we took time to be with family and I had time to sit by myself without the chaos of the noise in my life.

Realizing that I’ve been grieving the loss of my studio since our move was hard. It’s been here for a while and I knew it needed attention as not having that space and time to create has been creeping into many aspects of my life. Figuring out how to change that feeling will be a slow process. It’s made me uneasy, misplaced and feeling lost. That’s probably not the right words to truly describe the feeling and the void it has created.

So today, I moved some things around to easy the feeling of loosing all the things. My tools are gone, my glass, my art supplies—- all of it was given away or trashed when we moved. I can’t remember where my favorite things are or what happened to them. For all I know they are packed and hidden away.

When I find a space— for now it’s the porch and an old family table to create upon maybe a small piece of the loss will come back or maybe something else will replace it. For now, I have some paint, brushes and a table. Today that is good enough.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Amy Keith Barney is a North Carolina artist who spends her free time making one of kind pieces of art in her Asheboro, North Carolina studio. She has been doing glasswork for 26 years and is inspired by bold graphic patterns, organic shapes, fabric motifs, nature, found objects and places she has traveled. She graduated from Campbell University with a BFA, double majoring in Studio Art and Graphic Design and she also holds a Masters of Library Science degree from North Carolina Central University. She is married to her husband, Jesse and has three kids; Aubrey, Jasper and Adalaide. ARTIST STATEMENT I learned the art of stained glass from my parents at a very young age. My goal is to carry on the tradition and teach my children this lost art. I’m fortunate to be able to have a home studio where I can work, create pieces I love and watch my young children grow. My love for the medium continues to grow and I find myself dreaming about the possibilities of glass-work. If I could describe my work, I’d say it’s whimsical, organic and free flowing creations. All of my pieces are created and designed from initial sketch to a finely polished work of art. I create each piece from start to finish--each one crafted by my own hands. My goal for my wholesale line is to create pieces that my clients will love, want to have in their shops and support their efforts to be successful. My relationships with my buyers are the most important part of my business. Without them I am unable to do what I love---CREATE ART! I ask that if you plan to carry my work please keep me informed of how the collection we customized for your shop is working. Suggestions, ideas and thoughts are always welcome as I intend to build a very long relationship with you! Artfully yours, Amy Keith Barney
