Today we had our annual Valentine's Party. It was a great event.
The Duo 'Deuces Wild" provided entertainment, which I thought was exceptional today. They always do a great job for us, but today was extra special. Rob's song "Aripeka Sunset" is a beautiful song. It describes living in Aripeka Florida perfectly. They know I love to hear it and they always play it for us. Thank you.

A big special thanks to all who brought food to share, Robbin Smith's fruit salsa and cinnamon sugar chips for dipping was delicious. The tuna salad , brought by Jim & Judy was very good. too. Everything was good.

But a very special thanks to Sheri Ireland Pratt, and Mike Salway for their help. Without them it would not have been nearly so good. They both are awesome and always willing to help no matter the " project" Thank you both.

Our next event will be our St Patty's Day party on March 17th. see you there.

Once again, with sadness, I report another long time resident Jim O'Donald, lot 193 died on July 4th. He leaves behind a very saddened Mary. Jim was sick for several months, He died peacefully, at home, as he wanted. Mary and his daughter, Kim were with him during his last days and as he quietly slipped away.

Once again we say good bye to another Aripeka West long time resident Jim O'Donald lot 193. Jim suffered from cancer. He recently returned home from the hospital to live out his last days at his home with those he loved. Mary and Jim have been together many years, Mary is sad but she knows Jim had reached a point where he wanted his battle to be over with. With Mary's help Jim fought a long hard fight. Rest In Peace, Jim. Know that you are missed.

here at Aripeka West we are in our rainy season. The grass and plants love it, as do the wildlife.

This week we have had sightings of a doe and her little fawn ( tiny little guy ) I am wondering if the rain flooded their bed and they were looking for a new one. Several deer have been seen in the park lately.

A Bobcat was seen. It took off pretty quickly but one picture captured it.

We always have turkeys in the park. the usual sequence is a hen will nest, coming off the nest every afternoon for food. After about a month she will emerge with several young polts ( baby turkeys) The number diminishes almost daily until there are few or none left. They must have a lot of natural enemies in the wild. However this year one hen appeared with her babies, a few days later there were two hens and many more babies. Like there is safety in numbers. Shortly thereafter a 3rd hen and her chicks joined the group. They all have stayed together. Today the three hens had maybe 12 babies which have reached the 1/2 grown size. Pretty amazing. Accidental or are they evolving? It has been interesting to watch.

We often see hummingbirds visiting the bottle brush tree. many people never see hummingbirds . one has to be quiet so as to not frighten the birds. They can be off before you know it.

last night I saw a mid-sized Owl sitting near my house. it flew away before I could get a picture. We hear the owls every night.

with all the recent rain the frogs are in full mating season. Nice sound that they make at night as they search for a soul mate or a one night friend, I am not sure.

Small bats fly overhead at night, scooping up bugs.

This past spring we had a lot of Blue Birds. They were everywhere. About 4 cats appeared on the scene ( probably dropped off by their previous owner ) I found a dead Bluebird, near the pool table. Now it is hard to find a songbird in the area. I hope they return.

I haven't seen as many tortoises as we usually see, I hope they are around and just alluding me. They are neat creatures.

Lightening bug season has started. Amazing little critters.

I have some pictures. I will post them soon.
