Jensen Woodwork

Jensen Woodwork We create beautiful objects from wood. Many of our bowls are turned from green wood, each reflecting the unique nature of the wood they come from.

Having fun making boxes. This silly little project is to help make it harder for us to lose the TV remote… 😉

This is how I make the wooden/decorative heads for the honey dippers. These are attached to high quality stainless steel bodies. The heads are removable so the body can be put in the dishwasher.

Lots of sanding today, mostly walnut with a little cherry. Once these green -turned bowls dry, they get two additional sandings before I finish them. I wipe them down with a wet rag in between so as to raise the grain before the final sanding. It is my least favorite part of making bowls, but it gives me the smoothest results. 🙂

Several months ago a devastating ice storm hit our area taking down numerous trees and leaving homes without power for days (some for weeks). There is a walnut orchard next to where I work that lost more than a dozen trees. This bowl was made from the trunk of one of those trees. I am not sure why, but these trees had very little of the brown heart wood we normally associate with walnut. This bowl is about 14” (no finish yet). I have three more large blanks like this still to turn.
