A panic attack can feel terrifying. Your heart races, your chest feels tight, your breathing changes, and your mind starts shouting, “Something is seriously wrong.”
Then fear feeds the physical symptoms, and the physical symptoms feed the fear.
This is the panic cycle. It can start with a stressful moment, a memory, a body sensation, or even a worried thought. The feelings are real, but panic attacks do pass, even when they feel overwhelming.
If this happens to you or someone you care about, try to remember: pause, breathe slowly, name what is happening, and focus on getting through the next few minutes. You are not “going mad” or failing. Your body’s alarm system has gone into overdrive.
And if panic attacks are happening often, or symptoms are new or concerning, please speak to a health professional for support.
