As much as we love the datafication of historical sources, we must always acknowledge the fact that the usage of data science techniques and AI in the context of selectively curated historical archives and datasets can amplify unwanted issues. These archives and datasets reflect underlying biases and power dynamics of the context of their creation and collection, as well as inequities in access, infrastructure, and perspective. The international conference "Data Ethics for Historical Research in a Digital Era. Critical reflections and best practices" seeks to examine the ethical dimensions of data usage within historical research.
Participation is hybrid (on-site/online), and registration is free!
