Conceived more like a piece of interior architecture than furniture, this monumental vitrine cabinet reflects the extraordinary cross-cultural craftsmanship that flourished in the hill workshops of the late Raj period.

Hand-carved from Himalayan cedar (Deodar), the cabinet is crowned with a dramatic Baroque-inspired pediment, its deep scrollwork and foliage carved in high relief. The richly articulated façade frames a glazed display chamber designed to present prized objects – manuscripts, silver, or heirloom curios – transforming the cabinet into a theatrical focal point within a room.

Layered mouldings, sculptural pilasters, and a commanding stepped plinth lend the piece the presence of a miniature architectural shrine. The dark, ebonized exterior contrasts beautifully with the warm interior wood tones, highlighting both the carving and the objects displayed within.

The Veranda of Memory

Crafted from solid Burmese Teakwood, this early 20th-century veranda bench reflects the quiet dialogue between British Colonial form and Indian craftsmanship. Its turned spindles, pierced lattice panels, and finial-topped posts were hand-carved to let light and breeze flow through shaded verandas along the Sindh coast.

Carefully restored by Lakr, the bench’s natural patina and structure have been revived without losing the honesty of age. Equally at home in a courtyard, hallway, or garden, it stands as a testament to enduring design: elegant, balanced, and steeped in memory.

It has been finely hand-sanded to achieve a smooth, soft-to-touch surface, preserving the natural texture of the teak without the gloss of polish.

Perfectly Imperfect | The Sultanate Door
Circa 15th Century — Five Centuries of Craft and Faith

This rare door, forged over five centuries ago during the late Sultanate era (pre-Mughal, c.1450–1525 CE), once guarded the entrance to a haveli or caravanserai; a threshold between devotion and daily life.

Its surface bears hammered tin and steel+brass ornamentations, each floral motif and rivet hand-forged in the tradition of early Indo-Islamic craftsmanship. The silver-grey tin, the subtle brass gleam, and the deep umber of aged rosewood tell a story written by centuries of touch, weather, and reverence.

At Lakr, we restored it with restraint: cleaning, not renewing. The steel+brass work was brushed to reveal its luster, yet the wire marks, corrosion, and missing motifs were left untouched, honoring its perfect imperfection. The surface has been sealed in 2K matte lacquer, preserving the wood’s patina, grain, and dignity.

This is not a piece of furniture, it is a survivor of empire and faith,
