Chairman PTI Imran Khan and Chief Minister Pervez Khattak addressed the Session on 3rd Party Monitoring Of Afforestation Project Phase 2, WWF Audit Report Presentation at Marriott Islamabad.
"There is an 83 percent success rate of the Billion Tree Tsunami Project. Everyone in Pakistan should be appreciating this. For those who think we are exaggerating are encouraged to go check their geo mapping, its all on google maps too.
We have planted more than 80 crore trees. The impact of this will go into the next generation. and also spill over into other provinces as people realise that this is a possibility. That the timber mafia can be fought, that govts can take up the challenge against them. I commend our KP ministers, for taking the lead and not backing down in the face of these mafias. They led by example and banished fear. 60,000 Kanals of land worth 22 Billion have been recovered from the timber mafia.
This was only possible because of bravery, honesty and good leadership. The beauraucrats here are examples today as to how beneficial our beauracracy can be to the country. They stood steadfast even in the face of threats of violence.
I am also happy that while rewards were given to teachers in KP who performed well, those who were absentee were penalised. A system of reward and punishment is extremely important.
Billion Tree Tsunami is now an internationally acknowledged initiative. and our little province was acknowledged at the Paris climate change conference. Billion tree tsunami is just a stepping stone, we wanted to show everyone how this initiative can be executed & from here we will take it much bigger. The federal government is also now taking inspiration from it, and they have pledged to grow 10 crore trees in 5 years.
We are teaching about climate change in schools; we are educating the next generation and also employing women, youth and the elderly in private nurseries. It has been a community and government effort. This will go all over Pakistan inshAllah. Through our students and our ISF we will take this project through all of Pakistan". -- Imran Khan
