General information
Hi All, ............To our lovely UK, Australian, Kiwi friends and those elsewhere in the world (who are also very lovely).... As many of you will now know Andrew proposed in Vienna (I said Yes!) and now we are starting to plan our wedding. We would like to float a few ideas past you all and ask for feedback so that we can set a date and plan a great celebration where everyone is involved. We would like to host a wedding at Pataua, where my Dad grew up and is simply a beautiful area that's really special to me. The area where we would have it is a blank canvas. There is nothing there - no house - no facilities only a paddock with a cowshed basically. The block is 5 mins walk across a paddock from an amazing surf beach, and 15 minutes walk to a sheltered estuary that's great for taking kids swimming or fishing of the bridge. (see attached map) Pataua is a 30 min drive East of Whangarei which in turn is 165km or 2hour 20min drive from Auckland, so whilst its not the easiest place to get to, its remoteness does make it unique. At Pataua there is no grocery shop, just beautiful surrounds. The wedding would be a casual affair with a large marque planted in the paddock, portaloos, a bouncy castle for kids, a place to play cricket, and maybe a bonfire later on for the evening. We would like to have an informal meal provided by Spit Roast caterers, and instead of tables and chairs fill the marque with enough haybales for everyone to sit on and eat off paper plates while having a chat to the person next to them. Alcohol would be a homemade bar with a few kegs, wine and plastic cups only. We have a lot of talented musicians as friends and would be honoured if they would play. Anyone who would like to volunteer as musical director? Julz? ............So, that's the idea We're aware that we can't please everyone in regards to date and location, but would like to make it easy for as many friends as possible to come. We know it can be expensive but hopefully the trip will be worth it! Accommodation - Pataua has holiday houses for rent. In total these offer 125 beds, roughly at $30 per night each. You can check these out on the following websites. Most are booked out for January until the end of the school holidays, Jan 24th. www.holidayhouses.co.nz www.bookabach.co.nz In addition to this there is a camping site (marked on map) with 40 mattresses in a hall, room for pitching tents and a basic shower block/cooking area. $10 p/person. Myself and Andrew will probably pitch a tent in the paddock next to the marque, and there's plenty of room for everyone else to do the same. Only - no shower facilities so it might be a swim in the ocean the next day instead. A brave option in April in NZ. Another good option is to hire a camper for the trip - http://www.maui.co.nz/ http://nz.keacampers.com/ http://www.escaperentals.co.nz/ Naming of the festival - Some suggestions have been 'Wedfest', Hazefest and 'Schravstock'. We have not yet decided so if you have a name that you feel suits our small wedding, folk, music, Pataua-based festival then please email. Thank you. Your response will give us an idea of numbers, help us put this together and your enthusiasm may also convince my dad that this is not a logistical nightmare!! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and suggestions. Much Love, Hazel and Andrew
