It's starting to be that time of year again - fly strike.

A great way to manage the health of your sheep is to shear them - flies need damp wool to live in. It's horrible what damage they can do in a short period of time, so getting the wool off now is a great way to prevent fly strike. This should prevent most fly strike cases until February...

Other bonuses are that your sheep are cooler and more comfortable in the hot weather, and they are more likely to remain healthy by eating because they don't have their winter coat on. It also helps get the lambs ready for the freezer quicker (if that's your thing!).

We can drench now for the spring released worms that have been hibernating, and can check feet and general health also.

If you need someone to shear your sheep please contact us PM is best or call me).

Also, please share (shear) with anyone you know who has wooly sheep and is in need of a shearer.

We are available with our state of the art electricity free handpiece evenings and weekends. Currently working inside the Auckland border.

Aren't they cute? But do you think it's weird that shearing your pregnant ewes right now is a great idea.?

It's kind of like when your mum is feeling cold so she makes you wear a jacket ... when a ewe has a nice warm fleece on, she doesn't feel cold, so her lamb(s) will stand with her in the cold wind and rain.

When she has been shorn she will find shelter from that weather, and that gives your wee lambs a better chance at life. Her skin will double in thickness in 24 hours and she will eat more to keep warm. Her wool keeps growing too.

Plus, long wool can look like a teat for a lamb, and that's got no nutrients!

Ginge is a shearer with nearly 30 years experience and has shorn small flocks of sheep all over the world.

As long as you have an area to contain the sheep, we can shear anywhere with our state of the art cordless handpiece.

Meet Trav (and his dirty mullet!)

Trav is a special beast, brought all the way to Northland from the deep South! We're not sure if that explains the mullet, but if that's what he wants - that's what he gets! Also available, Tutu, Lion, Ramicorn, Mohawk.... anything you can think of and we can practically do!

Regular shearing is also available - we have a state of the art electric handpiece, a very patient shearer and we can shear mobs of up to 30 all around the North Auckland/South Northland area. PM or call/text 021 488 575 for details.

Pet Lambs - we know they are precious, so we take our time, we are gentle and make sure we do the best job we can.

It's a great time to get the wool off your sheep right now - it helps keep them cool in this hot weather. Shearing can prevent fly strike, which can be either downright uncomfortable, or even fatal.

We are available to shear your small mobs now. Ginge is a shearer with nearly 30 years experience and has shorn small flocks of sheep all over the world.

As long as you have an area to contain the sheep, we can shear anywhere with our state of the art cordless handpiece.

There is a 20% discount for all sheep shorn prior to February 5th. We cover the North Auckland and South Northland area. Please message or call 021 488 575 for bookings.

Have a great day.

We can also do basic animal health - drenching, vaccines etc. As long as your animals can be contained somehow, we can shear them anywhere with our state of the art mobile handpiece.

Introductory price - until 5 February all call outs at the Tomarata Local price.
