It's starting to be that time of year again - fly strike.
A great way to manage the health of your sheep is to shear them - flies need damp wool to live in. It's horrible what damage they can do in a short period of time, so getting the wool off now is a great way to prevent fly strike. This should prevent most fly strike cases until February...
Other bonuses are that your sheep are cooler and more comfortable in the hot weather, and they are more likely to remain healthy by eating because they don't have their winter coat on. It also helps get the lambs ready for the freezer quicker (if that's your thing!).
We can drench now for the spring released worms that have been hibernating, and can check feet and general health also.
If you need someone to shear your sheep please contact us PM is best or call me).
Also, please share (shear) with anyone you know who has wooly sheep and is in need of a shearer.
We are available with our state of the art electricity free handpiece evenings and weekends. Currently working inside the Auckland border.
