Not the most glamorous furniture category, admittedly. But extremely useful when your spare room is also an office, laundry annex, storage facility and emotional dumping ground for things you’ll “sort later”.

Mixing timbers is not the crime people think it is.

The trick is to make it look intentional, not like three different flat-pack eras have collided in the hallway.

Start with one main timber, then repeat tones through smaller pieces, legs, frames, handles, lighting or artwork. Warm oak can work with darker timber. Black furniture can sit with natural wood. The room just needs a bit of rhythm, not a full matching bedroom-suite situation.

A lot of our home staging customers do this beautifully, because they know the point is not to match everything. It is to make the whole room feel pulled together.
