This year, the South Island Organ Company in Washdyke, Timaru, has been celebrating 55 years in business and this book details not just our history, but the art of organ restoration and the people who carry out this unique craft.

This is the first New Zealand published book of this format on organ building and restoration in New Zealand and Australia. It is an important record of New Zealand’s organ heritage and contains several chapters dedicated to the impact of the Canterbury earthquakes on the region’s pipe organs, but most especially on the tragic loss of two SIOC staff members and a volunteer in the February 22, 2011 Christchurch quake.
