Got troublesome areas in your lawn that always seem to stay wetter, softer, thinner or struggle compared to the rest?

Rather than aerating the entire lawn, targeted aeration can be a great way to focus on the problem areas only.

By opening up the soil profile in those specific locations, it helps improve water movement, oxygen into the root zone, nutrient uptake and overall turf recovery. Even a few targeted passes can make a noticeable difference.

Making some really good progress with the NZLA app. Still a fair way to go, but some big updates are coming soon.

Stories are on the way, similar to what you see on Instagram, which should make it much easier to share quick lawn updates, photos, applications and progress shots.

The NZLA shop is also being added directly into the app, which is going to be a game changer. Your details will already be saved, so ordering products will be extremely streamlined, basically a quick buy now process without having to re-enter everything each time.

We’re also working on a Lawn AI assistant within the app, which should be really useful once live.

Category filtering inside the app is also coming soon. You can already use categories on the website view, but native app filtering should hopefully be landing sometime next week.

Once the shop is fully integrated into the app, we’re also looking at offering lower free shipping thresholds for app subscribers. We will also very likely be discontinuing the current points system and moving towards app subscriber focused rewards instead. I’m still working through exactly what that will look like.

For anyone who has accumulated points already, don’t worry, those won’t disappear. We’ll convert them into vouchers for everyone to use over the next couple of years.

As I’ve mentioned a few times before, in the final stages the app will move onto the App Store properly, but not until the project is 100% finished and where we want it to be.

Really happy with how everything is progressing. Plenty more updates and improvements coming over the next couple of weeks.

As we head into the cooler months, boggy patches and struggling areas in the lawn start to become a real problem.

But not every lawn needs heavy machinery dragged across it. That’s where targeted aeration makes sense.

Instead of doing the whole lawn with bulky equipment, a handheld aerator lets you focus only on the problem areas, the high traffic zones, the dry patches, the spots that just aren’t responding.

Less disruption. Less damage. More control.

Dreaming of your perfect lawn? Start with our brand new seed selection tool to find the ideal grass for your region and project.

Once you have your recommended grass, be mindful of local conditions. In the North Island, like Auckland, you are still at the tail end of sowing fescues. Ideal Soil temperatures of 15 degrees at 10cm deep. Using a frost cloth can help here. While perennial ryegrass can germinate in soil temperatures as low as 5°C.

You can also check soil temperatures in your area using the NZLA app, currently available through our website while we finish the App Store build, so you know exactly when it’s time to sow.

Last chance to get your granular slow release down before winter. Once soil temps drop, uptake slows right off, what you put down now is what carries the lawn through.

All Seasons is the go-to this time of year, lower nitrogen, longer slow release, plus 5% iron for a nice green up without pushing growth.

NZLA Professional Turf-Grade Fertiliser delivers fast greening, balanced NPK nutrition and 6–8 weeks of steady feeding for healthy NZ lawns.

NZLA Azoxy is the fungicide I reach for when cold and damp conditions start driving disease pressure up. It's systemic, so it moves into the plant rather than sitting on the leaf surface, giving you up to 28 days of residual control from a single application.

It's a preventative tool first. If you've had red thread, leaf spot or fusarium in previous autumns and you know the pressure is coming back, get Azoxy down before disease shows up rather than chasing patches once they appear. There's curative activity on early disease too, so if you're seeing the first signs you can still pull it back.

While you're at it, make sure you've got your last granular fertiliser down before growth slows for winter. A strong plant resists disease better than a stressed one, and the two work together heading into the cold months.

This is the one to have on the shelf heading into winter.

Protect your lawn with NZLA Fungicide. Delivers up to 28 days of powerful defence against common lawn diseases for healthier, greener lawn.

New Zealand Garden Addicts!
New Zealand Garden Addicts

Some of you who've been customers for a while will remember the 6-month slow-release garden fertiliser I used to sell for pot plants, veggie gardens, ornamentals, and garden beds. It was really popular with many people, especially those using it in garden beds and pots.

I discontinued it a while back, but I've had many requests to bring it back, so I've decided to re-release it.

One of the main reasons I originally pulled it was branding. It sat under New Zealand Lawn Addicts, but it never really fit well there. So now I've created a dedicated brand: New Zealand Garden Addicts.

I've put a lot of work into this relaunch and it now includes the same high quality 6-month slow-release granular fertiliser from the original product, plus a new range of foliar feeds designed for garden use across pot plants, vegetable gardens, and ornamentals.

The approach is similar to lawn care: a strong base granular feed for long-term nutrition, supported by foliar products to help get nutrients into the plant when needed.

You'll typically use the granular fertiliser at the start of the season, then again about 6 months later. Some people will use it up to three times a year, depending on planting intensity. The foliar range can be used as needed throughout the season.

All products are high quality concentrates, so a little goes a long way. The website includes clear application rates for everything from garden beds to pot plants and watering cans.

NZGA is soft launching as we head into winter, but I wanted to share it with this group now because I know a lot of you were disappointed when the original product was discontinued.

I'll do a more formal push again in spring once we're heading back into peak growing season.

Thanks again for the support.
