As part of our Snow Machine Signature Experience, Mountain Club held a live podcast for our VIP Snow Machine Artists Speaker Series, hearing from the artists, DJs and people who make the iconic festival what it is.

Hosted by Danny Clayton, Australian TV and radio presenter and DJ, the conversation brought together multi-Platinum selling artist illy, DJ and media broadcast icon NICKA, and photographer / DJ Pat Stevenson, on his 10th Snow Machine, for a chat on the festival and the wider music scene.

An unfiltered conversation between artists, moving from the chaos of Snow Machine’s first edition in Japan, to what they’re most looking forward to at Snow Machine 2026, before diving into why the festival has outlived so many others, what live music means to the next wave of festival goers in a world increasingly shaped by AI, and the shift away from drinking towards wellness.

A few lines that stayed with us:
Danny Clayton - “Last year, 72% of Australians went to a music festival or live performance. People want something real, that they can see and feel, not just experience through a phone screen”

illy - “AI can help build a demo, but it can’t replace humanity. People at a festival want to know the song, and the moment, is real”

Pat Stevenson - “You know you’re doing something right when the artists want to come back. Snow Machine takes the guesswork out of a destination trip, and that’s why it keeps growing”

NICKA - “The model is shifting. Run clubs, plunge pools and merch are becoming as much a part of festival culture as the bar”

A snippet into part of our MC Signature Experience, a live audience, meeting the artists shaping festival culture, before everyone headed out to the Rees Street Party for Queenstown’s most iconic festival. Full podcast episode releases Wednesday 7th October on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Youtube.

The Truth About Injectables with Nicole Perez || Friday 25 September || 1700 – 1900 || Mountain Club Beach Street

Join us for an evening with Nicole Perez, founder of Nicole Perez | Queenstown Nurse Injector, talking honestly about injectables and skincare in an industry that thrives on hype. Nicole takes a refreshingly conservative approach to injecting, natural, subtle results, and she’ll be sharing the real conversations behind her philosophy, what actually works, and some of the biggest myths currently circulating in aesthetics and skincare.

Good conversation, a few surprises, and prizes and goodie bags from Skin Glow to take home. Most importantly, it’s a chance for quality, informed advice from someone who knows the industry inside and out.

Come curious, leave informed. Limited to 15 spaces.

In our latest Mountain Club Podcast episode, Paddy sits down with Nigel Hobbs, Managing Director of Tourism Innovation Group (TIG), for a conversation on betting on wellness tourism, scaling a group of touring brands, and stepping into his own era of Queenstown tourism.

Nigel reflects on the mentors who've shaped his career, and talks through the old guard and the new guard, and why he now sees his generation as the ones taking control of what comes next for the region, building on what has been set up. He explains why TIG's brands, Altitude Tours NZ, Black ZQN, and Fiordland Tours, have always been about the journey rather than the place, and why his newest venture Tussock Ridge is different: an outdoor hot pool destination cantilevered off a hillside above Lake Johnson, each pool private enough to see the stars and the lights of Coronet Peak, opening at the start of next winter.

Thank you Nigel for the honesty about legacy, timing, and betting on what's next. This is a well worth while listen on legacy, wellness tourism, and building for the long game in Queenstown.

COMING UP IN SEPTEMBER

We started September by taking Mountain Club over the hill, two days in The Secret Sauna, Lake Hāwea, Wānaka and The Secret Sauna Cardrona, guided hot and cold therapy, and connections made with members a little further afield.

Tonight we're back with our monthly AI Meet-Up, then the big one this week is Snow Machine. Our Signature Experience runs three days, opening with the VIP Artists Live Podcast Speaker Series and pre-event drinks at Beach Street before the Snow Machine Rees St Party. Thursday it's a full day heli-ski backcountry adventure, and Friday we're on the slopes at The Remarkables before an evening in the VIP Lodge for main stage views, premium hospitality and world-class DJs.

Our usual weekly Watershed Saunas on the 9th is for the dads, a Father's Day Sauna and Plunge, followed by a Tasting Session with Matt Connell Wines, then our third AI Series Workshop on Managing Brand in the Age of AI.

Later in the month, our annual cross country ski day returns at Snow Farm NZ, still one of the highlights of the Member Events calendar. Rental gear, trail passes, lunch and a lesson are included, except more time laughing than gliding gracefully across the snow, and a stop at the Cardrona Pub on the way back over the hill. $165 per person, members and guests welcome. Close out the month with a Gin Tasting by local Rifters, a Women's Sauna Day with Watershed, and a limited space talk on The Truth About Injectables with Nicole from Skin Glow.

Tasting Session with Matt Connell Wines || Thursday 10 September || 1730 – 1900 || Mountain Club Beach Street

Matt Connell doesn't release a wine until it's earned its place, which is partly why his Rendition Pinot Noir took Champion Wine of Show and why he was named Winemaker of Show in 2020.

We're excited to welcome Matt to a tasting session where he'll be pouring his range of wines, talking through the sites, the seasons, and what sets each vintage apart.

Join us for a social, relaxed evening, sit across the table, meet new people, and enjoy the journey through his wines together. Complimentary for members, guests welcome with a $20 donation to the MC community fund.

Two weeks at Mountain Club.

We started this one on the runway. Our Alps to City trip took a group to Auckland for New Zealand Fashion Week, two days built around the Kathryn Wilson Footwear show, private styling sessions, a Beauty Lab morning with MECCA, and dinners that ran long in all the right ways. A signature experience, and one we'll be running back in 2027.

Back home, on the snow with Search and Rescue Dogs Avalanche NZ took members up to Coronet Peak to watch the dogs behind avalanche rescue work a live search, before Nick Gilbert, founder of Favour, ran the second session in our AI Series, taking ChatGPT beyond the basics and into workflows people can actually use.

The weekly rhythm kept moving underneath it all: sauna and cold plunge sessions out at Watershed Saunas, early ski tours on the mountain, and Reform Queenstown pilates twice a week.

Beach St Cafe turned four, and we marked it properly, balloons, banners, and treats from The Remarkable Cookies, Boring Oat Milk and Allpress Espresso, plus a well overdue thank you to Loz and the crew who've kept the coffee running since day one. We spent a wet evening around the table with owner of Wet Jacket Wines, Greg Hay for a tasting session. The weather was fitting to learn about the history and stories behind the brand and wine in New Zealand.

Paddy scouted out Dusky Sound with Shadowland Expeditions, helicopter in, boat out, fresh seafood in between, all in the name of finding the next experience worth bringing to our members. To close the week out, we made the most of our extended Friday hours with after work drinks out on the balcony as the sun went down.

Just another fortnight at Mountain Club.

This one's for the dads.

Our weekly sauna and plunge session at Watershed Saunas is dedicated to Father's Day next week, celebrating the wonderful dads in our community with a proper contrast therapy reset: heat in the sauna, a plunge into Lake Whakatipu, and repeat.

Take an hour out of your week for yourself.
