These roller blinds changed my mind…

I’ll admit, I’ve never been the biggest fan of roller blinds ~ but these have genuinely changed my mind.

We installed these a while ago in a beautiful, sunny new home at the beach, alongside these gorgeous linen curtains with a separate lining behind.

I love this way of making linen curtains. Keeping the lining separate allows the linen to hang naturally and retain that lovely relaxed, slightly sheer quality that makes linen so beautiful, while the lining behind provides the privacy and protection you need.

And then there are the roller blinds. They’re so much nicer than they used to be ~ beautiful textured fabrics, neat hardware and a much softer look at the window.

Together, the layers work beautifully: texture and softness from the linen, practicality from the lining, and easy light and privacy control from the blinds.

A lovely example of window furnishings being practical without looking overly practical.

One thing I’d ask before buying a sofa or chair…

What’s supporting the seat?

When people bring a sagging sofa or chair into our workshop, they often assume the foam has worn out.

Quite often, though, the problem starts underneath. We regularly find cheap elasticated webbing that has stretched over time and is no longer properly supporting the seat. We can replace the webbing and, where needed, replace the tired foam too.

It’s one of the reasons construction matters so much when you’re choosing new furniture.

At Blanchetts, our new sofas and chairs use quality hand tied springs and jute webbing in the seats rather than elasticated webbing along with quality New Zealand-made foams and fills.

Most of that is completely hidden once a piece is upholstered ~ but it makes a very real difference to how your furniture feels and performs over the years.

So when you're buying a sofa or chair, don't just ask “Is it comfortable?” Ask “How is it made?”

A NEW LOOK IS COMING

You might notice Blanchetts looks a little different over the next few weeks…

Our signage is coming down and the building is getting a fresh new look ~ but we are very much open as usual throughout the transformation.

For a short time, our familiar signage won’t be there, so don’t drive past thinking we’ve disappeared! You’ll still find us at 58 Napier Road, Palmerston North, with the showroom open and our workshop busy behind the scenes.

Temporary window signage will be going up on Monday while the exterior transformation gets underway.

We can’t wait to show you the finished result.

We absolutely loved being part of this beautiful project with Nicola Ross Design.

Every home has its own story, and it was a privilege to manufacture and install the custom drapery for The Treehouse. Working alongside talented designers and builders to bring a vision like this to life is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

Thank you to Nicola Ross Design for trusting us with such an important element of the home. We think the finished result speaks for itself.

Congratulations to everyone involved on a stunning project.

A biophilic approach brings a sense of calm throughout this home, with the media room providing a place of refuge set off the main living space.

Mossy green carpet is grounded by the brick spine as it rises to meet the timber ceiling, while ombré sheers echo sunlight filtering through a tree canopy.
