💗 Kākahuria te māwhero – Pink Shirt Day 💗

"Kāti te whakawetiweti"

A little late to the post, today we proudly stood together in support of Pink Shirt Day a kaupapa that reminds us all of the importance of kindness, manaakitanga, inclusion and standing against bullying in all its forms.

We believe everyone deserves to feel safe, valued, heard and respected. Whether in our workplaces, schools, homes or hāpori, that words and actions matter.

He iti te kupu, he nui te aroha.
Small words can carry great kindness.

Today we wore pink to tautoko:
✨ kindness is strength
✨ diversity is celebrated
✨ people uplift one another
✨ and bullying has no place in our whānau, hapori or mahi spaces.

Me aroha tātou ki a tātou anō.

Kia tūpato e te whānau

Weather is a bit unpredictable at the moment, take care out there.

Check in on your whānau, drive safe, and make sure you’ve got what you need at home.

Kia haumaru tātou katoa.

Here’s the latest:

In addition to the Heavy Rain Watch for Horowhenua, there’s also a Heavy Rain Warning for the Tararua Range, where a decent amount of rain is set to fall. That means we could see rivers and streams rising quickly, surface flooding, and the odd slip.

Because of that, we’ve closed Kimberley Reserve as a precaution, those river levels can change fast, and we’d rather be safe than sorry.

We know it can feel like a bit much, and we really appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while we keep sharing updates and making these calls.

🌧️ Cyclone Vaianu – Quick Update from Horowhenua District Council

Kia ora e te whānau

At this stage, there are no known impacts across Horowhenua. The system has tracked further east, which is positive for our area.

HDC are advising the district may experience:
• Moderate to heavy rain at times
• Stronger winds overnight into tomorrow
• Possible localised power outages
• Some surface flooding/ponding
River levels are expected to rise but are not currently a concern.

⚠️ Kimberley Reserve is closed as a precaution due to conditions in the Tararua Ranges and potential impacts on the Ōhau River.

👉 Please take care:
• Secure loose outdoor items
• Check in on whānau and neighbours

Kia haumaru te noho, e te whānau

Cyclone Vaianu - Quick Update 2

Kia ora Horowhenua

At this stage, there are no known impacts across the district.

The system has tracked further east again compared to yesterday, which continues to be favourable for us (whoop whoop) Over the next few hours, we are expecting some moderate to heavy rain and potentially stronger winds overnight, however nothing we are seeing at this point raises concern.

Winds are expected to continue through until Monday afternoon/evening, although current indications are they remain manageable. There is a possibility of some localised power outages overnight and into the early hours of the morning.

There is the potential for short duration heavy rain, which may result in some localised ponding. River levels are forecast to rise but are not expected to reach levels of concern.

As a precaution, Kimberley Reserve has been closed in response to the Orange rain warning in the Tararua Ranges and the potential impact on the Ōhau River.

Please take care, secure any loose outdoor items, and check on those around you. We’ll continue to keep you updated if anything changes.
