Welcome to Inside and Out, we are a small business in Hawera at the heart of South Taranaki that specialize in making furniture from Macracapra wood, “Mac” as it is affectionately known is what Kiwis know as the smell of home, and our aim is just that, to deliver pieces of furniture for the home. My name is Ray Treeby and with my business partner Chris Embling we manufacture and sell our products

from our store in Hawera located at 202 High Street. For some years myself and Chris have been producing furniture for family and friends ( both immediate and extended ) and have now decided to open our store and make our furniture for a wider audience, all the skills I have I am proud to say were passed down from my dad, and for the knowledge and skills he gave me I am extremely grateful. I think the reason Chris and I enjoy what we do so much is the connection we have with the wood goes back over generations, and that gives you a sense of pride and tradition. Our supply of wood comes from a local mill on the outskirts of Hawera, which allows us to boast “local” from start to finish. Our products vary from Bar’s and Bar leaners to Butchers Block’s, and although we try to stock as wide a variety as we can in the store, most of what we do is made to order and specific requirements. Macracapra has the most beautiful grain and no two pieces are the same, we try to keep the integrity of the wood wherever possible and let each piece tell its own story.
