Kimihia Parents’ College is a secondary school in Woolston for pregnant teenagers and young parents aged under 19. At Kimihia we encourage academic achievement and help students to gain qualifications for their career choice. We also give students the skills to mak
e healthy parenting and lifestyle choices. Students’ children may be cared for next door to our school in a purpose built Early Learning Centre. Who will be teaching me? You will be taught by three secondary school teachers. We provide an Individual Education Plan for each student. Staff at Kimihia are experienced at teaching young parents who are balancing study with child care commitments. You can study a full range of NCEA Level 1-3 subjects at Kimihia, including:

We are also able to offer a wide range of further subjects by correspondence. How many other students are there? There are usually between 20 and 30 students attending. What are the facilities like? Kimihia Parents’ College is a purpose-built school with an open plan classroom. There is a computer room with 10 PCs as well as iPads and Chrome Books. Another area includes a spacious open plan lounge with tables, sofas and a fully equipped kitchen. How long do I come to school for? Our hours are from 9.15am until 3.00pm. Morning tea is between 10.30 and 10.50 and lunch is between 12.45 and 1.30. There are 5 periods in the school day and students must attend Monday-Friday. How do I get to school? Students are offered transport to and from school in vans with car-seats provided. Can I see my child during the day? Of course. The Early Learning Centre is next door and you will have free access to your children during the day. Your child will be provided with morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea as part of the Centre’s healthy eating programme. What do students say about Kimihia Parents’ College?
