Designed by respected New Zealand artist Gavin Chilcott for Dilana, this memorable hand tufted rug brings the immediacy of the artist’s original drawn line into a richly textured floor piece. Jugs and beakers are rendered with playful confidence, set against deep charcoal and vivid blue with a striking wash of chartreuse.

Beautifully made and unmistakably contemporary, it has the timeless quality of a work that sits between art and design. Dilana has been hand crafting fine New Zealand made rugs for over 35 years, adding further depth to a piece that offers warmth, scale and character in equal measure.

We are pleased to present an exceptional large-scale modernist painting by New Zealand artist Ted Dutch, dated 1965.

London-born Edwin 'Ted' Dutch trained at St Martin's School of Art before emigrating to Auckland in 1951. Initially working in animation, graphic design and commercial screenprinting, he began producing fine-art screenprints in the early 1960s before expanding his practice into painting and sculpture.

His early work reflected the rapidly changing technological world of the post-war period, moving between abstraction and imagery drawn from architecture, machinery and the human figure. This 1965 painting captures that tension particularly well, with fractured forms and layered surfaces that suggest an urban or architectural landscape without becoming fully representational.

In 1967, Dutch became a founding member of the New Zealand Print Council and began exhibiting with Auckland's influential New Vision Gallery. His engagement with European abstraction is also documented through artist Mervyn Williams, who worked in Dutch's Auckland studio and later recalled the influence of Portuguese-born painter Maria Helena Vieira da Silva on both Dutch and Milan Mrkusich.

This desk is one of the more rare and exceptional works of design we've come across. Beautifully resolved, this Danish modern teak desk combines strong architectural form with exceptional practicality. Richly grained teak is set against crisp linear edges, while subtly curved drawer fronts soften the bold geometric frame. Two extension leaves slide neatly into the top, allowing the piece to adapt with ease for work, writing or display.

Created in the spirit of postwar Scandinavian modernism, it reflects the Danish ideal of furniture that is both refined and intelligently functional. A distinctive and sculptural piece with generous storage and presence from every angle.

Elegant and quietly confident, this iconic Børge Mogensen A-154 bookcase for FDB Møbler is a beautifully resolved example of Danish modernism. Crafted in vibrant oak, it features clean architectural lines, generous shelving and Mogensen’s distinctive triangular joinery detail to the base.

As artistic director of FDB, Mogensen helped define a new era of democratic Danish design in the 1940s, creating honest furniture for everyday living. Versatile, refined and highly functional, the A-154 works equally well as a bookcase, display piece or understated room anchor. We have 3 available.

These elegant nesting tables by Erling Torvits for Heltborg Møbler pair warm beech frames with richly toned rosewood tops. Softly rounded edges and sculptural supports giving the set a refined, light presence. The woven cane shelf to the smallest table is a thoughtful detail, adding both texture and function.

A fine example of Danish mid century cabinetmaking, the design speaks to the period’s gift for combining beauty with practicality. Compact and versatile, the three tables tuck neatly together when not in use, then separate to offer a graceful set of surfaces as required.

A definitively Danish sideboard in rosewood, the Model 66 is a seriously stunning piece of design and luxury.

With numerous international design awards under his belt and a reputation as one of the most cutting edge designers, designer Ib Kofod Larsen's work for Danish maker Faarup in the 1960s is highly coveted.

The 'Model 66' is a confident expression of Kofod-Larsen's design aesthetic. Spacious cabinets offer flexible storage options with beautifully crafted drawers and four drawers at the top for smaller items. This unreservedly minimalist offering of grand proportions and crisp linear detailing is the perfect canvas for the stunning grain of the rosewood timber. This particular sideboard has a wonderful grain pattern on display and is absolutely stunning in person.

Franz Iseke is one of mid-century New Zealand's most celebrated architects. This large scale home from 1960 offers a private entrance set down from the road and a fully opened expanse of glass and deck to face the view of Orakei Basin. While it's been updated over time, it's clear that Iseke achieved something special for this time period with this International modern style design. 14 Darwin Lane, Remuera is currently for sale.
