Celebrated Danish designer Kai Kristiansen created the 'Universe' collection in 1966, it was his last design in a highly successful collaboration with premium furniture maker Magnus Olesen. In his biography, Kristiansen recalls being very satisfied with the collection and how it elegantly demonstrated the skill and craftsmanship of producer Magnus Olesen.

The Universe collection was designed with modularity at front of mind; dimensions were standardised and large constellations of design arrangements could be created. The 'Universe' range was also very exclusive, on its first production run Magnus Olesen decided the company would only produce it in the finest exotic wood of the time, Brazilian Rosewood.

New Blog / It's almost fifteen years since we first saw a piece of furniture by Omann Jun. It was the classic, collectable knife blade handle sideboard in rosewood. Purchasing and later selling an example of this design was a special moment and we can remember delivering it to the lucky buyer.

Since then we've seen around 50 other examples of designs by this Danish maker. All with the same subtle rounded details and architectural forms, spectacular timber grain patterns and wonderful, functional features that contribute to such an enduring following for these pieces.

Visitors to the gallery may also know that we represent Omann Jun in a new production capacity as well. The company is closing in on 100 years, having started in 1933. That sideboard that we loved so much, the Model 18, remains in production under a third generation family member of the original founder. This design features in our gallery today as well as the classics – a Model 76 Desk and Model 19 Sideboard in Rosewood.

This impressive storage piece was designed by Johannes Andersen for high end furniture maker Skaaning & Søn. Johannes Andersen is considered one of the great mid-century Danish designers and his work attracts international attention. He initially apprenticed as a cabinetmaker before opening his own architectural practice where he focused on designing contemporary furniture for leading Scandinavian makers.

The 'Model 2207' is derived from the 2213 Sofa which was created for Mogensen's own home in 1962, incorporating natural materials and a high level of craftsmanship.
