Skog Art Space

Skog Art Space SKOG is a vibrant and unconventional art space in Oslo's East End with a crush on material-based art. SKOG will have exhibitions regularly.

SKOG art space is not a gallery, not a studio, not a collection, but something unique in between. SKOG means FOREST in Norwegian. SKOG wants to give you unique experiences. At SKOG everyone is welcome to buy their favourite object on the spot. SKOG takes you into a forest of new experiences, objects and art. At SKOG, no work is too old, too young or unimportant. As in the forest, you will discover

objects we have brought with us on our way back home. Objects that are beautiful, curious, eternal or perishable - just like nature. At SKOG you will discover the undiscovered: Established and new artists, young and old, used and new objects. We promise to exhibit collections of innovative artists, traditional creators and to give you experiences to bring with you into the future.

Michael Johansson is a Swedish sculptor and visual artist known for his striking, large-scale installations composed of everyday objects. His work is defined by tightly assembled, cubistic formations in which items are arranged into precise geometric blocks with no empty space. Drawing comparisons to Tetris, Johansson transforms the familiar into something both playful and conceptually rigorous. By imposing order on ordinary materials, he challenges perceptions of space, structure, and function. His installations invite viewers to reconsider the hidden potential and visual harmony within the objects of daily life.

Last day of The Strawflowers’ Journey by Mingshu Li.

———

What is the inspiration behind your series, The Strawflowers’ Journey?

Mingshu Li shares that the inspiration behind The Strawflower`s Journey started during an artist residency in Porsgrunn three years ago. There, she became familiar with Porsgrunn Porselensfabrikk`s strawflower motif. She dived more into the history of this blue and white pattern, and found how it has migrated across cultures for over 200 years. She also made a parallel between this cross-cultural migration and her own experience as a Chinese artist relocating to Norway. When her library research yielded few written records about the motif’s exact origins, she decided to use clay to “fill the gap” in the history books, crafting a visual story to complete the narrative of its journey. We are delighted to welcome you to the opening of «The Translation of Pain» by Yu Shuk Pui Bobby at the SKOG.

The exhibition opens on
Thursday May 7th
18:00 - 20:00

Origininally from China, Yu Shuk Pui Bobby, explores the fragile intersections between body, memory and cultural translation; working across moving image, installation, performance and text. She moves fluidly between theoretical inquiry and personal vulnerability in her artistic practice. Her layered narrative spaces weaves together critical perspectives, humour and tender everyday details.

Currently exhibition with Mingshu Li.

The Strawflowers’ Journey, traces the migration of the Strawflower motif (Stråmønster) from Chinese blue-and-white porcelain through European reinterpretations and into its later naturalization in Norway. Through sculptural translation, fragmentation, and repetition, the project treats ornament not as surface decoration but as a moving visual system shaped by cultural exchange, adaptation, and memory. By transforming a painted pattern.

Mingshu Li is a Chinese-born ceramic artist currently based in Norway. She began her formal artistic training in China, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Ceramic Art and Design from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 2016. She later relocated to Norway to further her practice, graduating with a master of Art in Art and Craft from the Oslo National Academy of Arts (KHiO) in 2020.
