In collaboration with PEN Malaysia, ReformARTsi is hosting a panel discussion at this year’s KL Art Book Fair! Come hear from Jo Kukathas (The Instant Café Theatre Company), Wen Di Sia (Gerimis Art Project), Gayathri Santhi-McBain (PEN Malaysia) and our very own Aishah Shafiq from the ReformARTsi Secretariat about their experiences as writers, researchers and advocates, the challenges they face and the changes they are fighting for. What does “Seni Untuk Semua” mean to them? What are their hopes for Malaysia’s art and culture, its diverse communities, its future?

Drop by to learn more about ReformARTsi’s petition campaign and what role you can play in pushing for a more inclusive and just arts and culture ecosystem in Malaysia! There will also be a Q&A session with the audience.

ReformARTsi sedia hadir di Unit B7 @ Sam Mansion di Kg Attap dari 1pm ke 5pm, sabtu ini. Ada apa-apa soalan tentang petisyen Seni Untuk Semua? Ada apa-apa idea untuk pembangunan seni di Malaysia yang ingin dikongsi dan dibentangkan? Jom, kita bincang kat sana!

Panggilan ketiga kami meminta hak asasi setiap penggiat seni dilindungi dan dihormati. Sebagai penggiat seni, kami berhak bebas bersuara, dan sebagai penonton, kami berhak memilih apa yang kami s**a dan tak s**a. Kalau s**a, okay lah. Kalau tak s**a, jom bawa bincang kenapa!

Dalam sehari korang tengok tv berapa lama? Layan reels dengan video dekat Youtube berapa kali? Ada dengar lagu dalam kereta tak dalam perjalanan ke kerja? Seni sedia teman kami di setiap detik harian kami. Mari berseni bersama!

Kami menyeru kerajaan dan Perdana Menteri Anwar Ibrahim untuk memperkukuh industri seni dan budaya. Petisyen kami memerlukan sekurang-kurangnya 50,000 tandatangan! Petisyen ini akan merangkumi 5 seruan kepada kerajaan iaitu:

1. Menubuhkan sebuah taskforce yang majoritinya terdiri daripada penggiat seni dan budaya, bersama wakil daripada masyarakat sivil serta kerajaan, untuk merangka dan melaksanakan Blueprint Seni dan Budaya Kebangsaan untuk tempoh 15 tahun.
2. Memperbaiki pendidikan seni di semua sekolah awam.
3. Menegakkan hak asasi penggiat seni dan pekerja budaya (hak sosial, ekonomi dan artistik).
4. Memperuntukkan sekurang-kurangnya 0.1% daripada belanjawan tahunan Malaysia kepada seni dan budaya.
5. Menubuhkan sebuah Kementerian khusus untuk Seni, Budaya dan Ekonomi Kreatif.

ReformARTsi Calls for Increased and Consistent National Spending on Malaysia’s Arts and Culture

“Beginning with Budget 2026, it is vital to develop a more strategic investment in preserving Malaysia’s multiple histories and heritage; inculcating citizens with invaluable skills geared towards participatory democracy like critical thinking and creativity; upholding and celebrating the diversity of Malaysia’s society; build audiences for the arts; and empowering Malaysia’s youth and workforce with a sense of identity and creativity.”

1) a 15-year National Arts and Culture Blueprint
2) improving arts education in public schools
3) upholding the fundamental rights of artists
4) allocating at least 0.1% of national budget to arts and culture
5) dedicating a Ministry to Arts, Culture and Creative Economy

A thriving arts scene not only benefits those who work in it, but everyone who lives in Malaysia!
