Malaysia is now ranked No. 13 globally for diabetes prevalence — and this is something every one of us should be deeply concerned about.
According to the International Diabetes Federation, diabetes continues to rise at an alarming rate worldwide, and Malaysia remains among the countries most affected. Even more worrying, many cases are diagnosed late — when complications have already begun to impact lives.
Diabetes is not just a health issue. It affects families, productivity, and places a growing strain on our national healthcare system. The long-term complications — heart disease, kidney failure, vision loss, and amputations — are preventable with early intervention, research, and sustained public awareness.
As a nation, we must align with the initiatives led by the Ministry of Health Malaysia and continue strengthening prevention, early screening, and evidence-based treatment strategies. Research and innovation are critical pillars in this fight.
