The Underlying Logic of Soft Furnishings
📌 Go Beyond Product Stacking
Usually, we think that soft furnishings simply include furniture, fabrics, accessories, lighting, and other major categories of products. However, the field of soft furnishings covers more than just these elements. From an academic point of view, it also includes flowers, paintings, daily necessities, works of art, etc., collectively known as the "eight categories of soft furnishings". But why are these elements so often valued or considered secondary? The answer may be that some categories have less obvious practical uses or that they are not considered an important scheme in the furnishing scheme. Of course, soft furnishings should not be viewed simply as a collection of products.
📌 Lifestyles as a Core
The outcome of soft furnishing design isn't just a collection of soft furnishing products; it should manifest as an external representation of one's lifestyle. Beyond the sensibilities of color logic, lighting relationships, and material attributes, soft furnishing design also entails rational considerations such as spatial flow analysis, storage analysis, appliance arrangement, and attention to life's intricacies. This means pondering how to keep a toilet brush clean, aesthetically storing wet and dry waste, managing dirty laundry, streamlining complex kitchen storage, and making the kitchen a place you genuinely enjoy. While "good-looking" is a sensory result and description, "user-friendly" requires meticulous calculation and choice, often involving trade-offs. These factors ultimately combine to create an attractive and practical "lifestyle."
📌 Addressing Life's Pain Points
The statement was somewhat one-sided, but today we want to discuss more than just furniture and textiles; we want to delve into appliances and everyday items. These aspects are often overlooked but have a profound impact on our daily life experiences. For instance, the difference between a washing machine's spin speeds, the effectiveness of a domestically produced versus an American-style dryer, the choice between paper towels and hand towels, and the placement of bath towels and robes in the bathroom—all these minor details significantly affect our quality of life. We aim to objectively analyze the preferences for various appliances and daily items, uncovering those "lifestyle gems" that are cost-effective, visually appealing, and effectively address the small annoyances of daily life.
📌 Link Between People and Space
Some people believe that soft furnishings are merely the finishing touches—nice but not necessary. However, we believe that soft furnishings should come with stories and emotions. For example, a painting on the wall might be a child's artwork, the decor on the table could be a souvenir from a friend's trip, or the everlasting flowers in the vase might be a gift from a spouse on an anniversary. Each soft furnishing item carries the essence of precious moments and fond memories. Soft furnishings should have depth and personal significance; they shouldn't be superficial fashion accessories.
