The Origin of the Form

Every sculptural piece begins with structure. Etna Design developed the original mold geometries that defined the architectural language of basalt fiber outdoor furniture. These forms were engineered in-house, combining material knowledge with structural precision.

The result was not just a product, but a foundation many later followed.

Built for Nature’s Extremes. Designed to Last Decades.

Outdoor environments are unpredictable. Materials are tested not once, but continuously - by climate, by light, by moisture, by seasonal extremes. True performance reveals itself slowly, over years of exposure. Therefore Etna Design works with basalt fiber that was developed for precisely these conditions.

UV Stability - Enduring Colour and Structure

Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet radiation is one of the primary causes of material degradation in outdoor furniture. Many surfaces fade, weaken, or become brittle over time.

Basalt fiber offers inherent resistance to UV exposure due to its mineral composition. The material does not rely on surface treatments alone for protection. Structural stability remains intact, and colour retention is maintained even under intense sunlight. Etna Design products ensure consistency - in appearance and performance.

Resistance to Coastal Conditions

Salt-laden air accelerates corrosion in many conventional materials. Metals oxidize. Coatings deteriorate. Structural integrity can be compromised.

Basalt fiber does not rust, oxidize, or corrode. Its inorganic nature provides natural tolerance to saline environments, making it suitable for coastal architecture and open-air installations where exposure is constant and unavoidable.

Outdoor environments are defined by fluctuation. Summer heat. Winter frost. Sudden shifts between day and night temperatures. From Volcanic Rock to Continuous Fiber

In a controlled production process, basalt is heated to approximately 1500°C and drawn into continuous filaments. Unlike synthetic fibers, basalt requires no chemical additives during fiber formation. The result is a mineral-based material with high tensile strength, dimensional stability, and inherent resistance to environmental stress.
