Ahmad Jawad & Sons s.a.l Classic, Decorative & Modern Carpets since 1927 Beirut, Lebanon
Monday to Saturday 10:00 - 19:00 Our company is a family business. It was founded by Mr.

Ahmad Jawad as he took premises in Allenby Street in the heart of the commercial center of Beirut. The business soon expanded for reliability and quality carpets. New relations were established and flourished with neighboring countries. After the Second World War, the Beirut Port Free Zone was established and the four sons joined the business: Fouad in 1946, Ghazi in 1956, Farouk in 1962 and Kamel

in 1964. Business geared to higher levels as new articles were introduced. Markets were expanded to Europe, North and South America. The newly rich countries of the Middle East proved to be good partners in the success of the firm. Unfortunately, the civil war broke in 1975 and both premises were destroyed. The firm moved to Verdun Street far from the war area to cater to the local market. When war ended we rebuilt our premises in Allenby Street and expanded it to 700sqm. We also took a warehouse in the newly rebuilt Beirut Free Zone. The third generation has moved in with Maher and Faysal. New networks have been built and customers come for reliability, fair advice and proper service. The carpet collections we carry cover quality classical rugs from Iran and the Caucasus region, and new decorative carpets from the Afghan Refugees and modern carpets from the Tibetan refugees.

A captivating Lectio Magistralis led by Alberto Boralevi on “THE ARRIVAL OF THE MAMLUKS: Mediterranean Carpets from East to West,” organized by the MITA Cultural Center and Fondazione Tassara. The presentation delved into the intricate and beautiful world of Mamluk carpets. Boralevi’s erudit knowledge and enthusiasm for Mamluk carpets truly brought these historical treasures to life!
In addition to the Mamluk carpets on display, I also had the chance to discover Para-Mamlouk and Cairene carpets from Egypt and Syria, along with carpets from Portugal, Spain, Morocco, and even the small but fascinating production of Italian carpets from Abruzzo.

Thank You

Last day of included a series of wonderful talks by experts from different disciplines each bringing his study to complete the ‘Sanguszko Carpet’ story and later the overall ‘Kerman Carpets from 1535 to 1750’ story in memory of Alessandro Bruschettini with the help of the municipality of Genoa.

I particularly loved ‘Some Iconographic Puzzles’ talk by Robert Hillenbrand who gave the Sanguszko Miho carpet different voices to speak at the same time not many things but not much!

I also enjoyed ‘A Riot of Colour’ talk by William Robinson who undertook the subject by how dyes are placed rather than by how chemically and scientifically are achieved.
Special thanks to the tireless Michael Frances, .rosso and to all who supported this event.
