Nowadays it is almost impossible to find an apartment in which there would not be such a solid and necessary element of furniture as a cupboard.
The history of the cupboard began in the Middle Ages, but finally it took on its appearance and functionality much later in France.
Here it was made as a cupboard, doors and shelves were an obligatory attribute. A corner cupboard appeared in the 17th century.
Porcelain dishes and family silver were usually displayed on shelves. At that time, cupboards were made of various shapes and purposes. They were both single-tier and two-tier. The doors were equipped with various latches and locks. Between the lower and upper parts was a table with a large niche. In France, fruit bowls and wine bottles were kepr in this niche.
In Germany, the niche served more for decorative items, beer mugs, souvenirs and other items. When this element of furniture came to Russia, here the niche was used more often for a samovar, which was placed on a tray, a kettle for heating water, standa and fruit bowls. This type of cupboard very quickly gained wide popularity throughout Europe.
Having a general construction concept, there were a huge number of varieties of forms and design. The differences consisted in the proportions, the variety of design, the ratio of glazed and deaf parts of the structure, the presence and size of the upper cornice, baseboard or legs. Drawers also differed in form and function. And a special place was devoted to the design of decorative elements. The variety of finishing extended from simple and unpretentious, to masterpieces and works of art.

The first coffee table was designed by architect-designer Edward William Godwin in 1868. Despite a height of 70 cm, in the books of Victorian Furniture (R.W. Symond and B. B.Whineray,) and The Country Life Book of English Furniture (Edward T. Joy) it is referred to as coffee. Low and long coffee tables became later.

There are two versions of their occurrence.
First: the idea of a low table was borrowed in the culture of the Ottoman Empire, during which time such tables were used to serve tea in the gardens. The second is connected with Japan: the Japanese style was very beloved in England in 1870-1880. The sofa, familiar to us, came to Europe at the beginning of the 17th century from Turkey, and then gradually conquered the expanses of America and Australia. As a result, this furniture is now known all over the world. Initially, a sofa was simply a wide, low couch with a small back and many pillows, but now this version of the furniture group consists of a variety of variations.
Pillows are often replaced by a soft back and armrests. Moreover, if pillows are still included in the sofa set, today they can be of very different shapes - rectangular, round, square, oval or abstract. However, the oriental theme in the sofa remained unchanged.
It's bed should still be spacious and low, and the sofa cushions, which usually number three or more, allow you to gently plunge into their charming oriental tale and feel like a real sheikh. Thus, its consumers are, as a rule, people who value the east and seek to create a corner of magical coziness and comfort at home.
