Creating awareness post! Long post alert 😊
Why do we ask for site visit fees?
When any other profession visits your site, I.e, a structural engineer, a mechanical engineer, an architect or anyother professional you are happy to pay, where you draw the line is when you engage Interior professionals.
Dear Customer kindly note coming to your site is a cost and we will charge you. We would love to do it for free but again we can’t afford the cost, we always have anything from 2 to 6 professionals depending on what should be done in your house.
For example, Your project is as far as Busia but you still ask why we would charge you a site visit of 20k or more depending on distance?
1. We need to fuel car/s to come there why? Your home sometimes is usually so interior from where a public transport will stop us, how do we get to your village?
2. Usually a site visit would take even up to 6 hours of interaction and doing measuremnets and all, probably we would not make it back same day so we need accomodation.
3. The team needs to have meals and all
4. Assume your employer sent you for an out of town work and never provided for resources for you to be comfortable would you go? For most employed people they would never travel for work assignment with no “ Per diem” yet you want people to come to your village for work at no cost?
Com’on!
5. When we get to your house, we give you consultation services and that’s intellectual property. Why would you need it for free?
6. We used to do these site visits for free until when some of our clients took our ideas and called a fundi on the side to implement it for you. Once some fundis don’t meet your expectations, you call us and expect us to fix the problem. No we will not show up😊
7. Some of us are honest professionals, we went to school to study interior architecture, just like how you went to school to study for your profession, we are not interior decorators and even if we were, doesn’t everyone deserves a pay for their job? When we have your job we take it with the seriousness it deserves. If you would not pay for a simple thing as a site visit fee because you feel it’s free money, that’s your loss. Funny enough you will travel all the way to meet with us and for sure your travel was not free you paid a cost 😂
8 . Some of you would ask why are you not using plans to quote for the job,
a. A number of you are not ready to share their plans
b. More often in Kenya what’s on the ground is not what’s on the plan and once we quote you will not accept changes.
c. Some of you will give us plans and what you want when we get there, we can’t implement it due to some hindrances of height or space that was not sited on the plan.
d. Most of you will not in anyway remember where your plan is and therefore we need to be on the ground.
e. Some of you have plans that are half way done, no electrical and plumbing plans in them.
It’s many things I may not exhaust but it’s very wrong to underestimate our work.
We have saved many of you resources just by the fact you engaged a professional. But again, how will you know what you bring on the table if you don’t want to pay us?
Finally let’s learn a abit
What is an Interior Architect?
An interior architect specializes in designing and creating functional, aesthetically pleasing interior spaces that meet the needs and preferences of clients. Unlike interior designers who primarily focus on selecting furnishings, colors, and decorative elements, interior architects have a broader scope of responsibilities that encompass both the structural and aesthetic aspects of interior design. They work closely with clients to understand their requirements, objectives, and design preferences, and then develop comprehensive design plans that integrate architectural elements, spatial layouts, and interior finishes to achieve desired outcomes.
Interior architects may specialize in specific types of projects, such as residential, commercial, hospitality, or healthcare design, and utilize a combination of technical expertise, creativity, and problem-solving skills to transform interior environments into functional, visually appealing, and ergonomic spaces.
Just for laugh 😂
One a client told me, “ I would never pay you for a site visit afadhali I give the job to someone else” and I took it well and said thank you. Next thing I see I am being invited to a WhatsApp group to fundraise for something and I smiled😊 Good thing is we have been trained to have very high emotional intelligence in this profession.
We don’t want you to support us we want you to pay for our job because we are actually professionals in this industry. Abroad Interior architects are involved from the point you want to start drawing plans for your home. Here we are known for arranging seats in your house 😂 Eii life can beat you a good one 😝
