CAUMA chair / HIRATA CHAIR

Designed by Swiss designer Carlo Clopath カルロ・クロパット, the new CAUMA chair brings together clarity of structure, efficient use of materials, and the natural beauty of solid wood.

Designed around the idea of achieving maximum function with a minimal number of elements, the chair combines a solid hardwood frame with a molded plywood seat shell. Its simple sawbuck construction, forming an A-shaped profile, creates a robust structure with a minimal number of components while making efficient use of materials.

An optional seat cushion completes the open frame, offering both visual lightness and lasting comfort. Expressing the structure itself as part of the design, the chair celebrates the natural beauty of wood with a quiet architectural presence suited to residential, hospitality, and public interiors alike.

Carlo Clopath’s multidisciplinary practice spans furniture, material research, and architecture. Guided by functionality, clarity, and sustainability, his work reflects a deep appreciation for natural materials and thoughtful craftsmanship—values embodied in the CAUMA chair.

スイス人デザイナー、カルロ・クロパット（Carlo Clopath カルロ・クロパット）がデザインした新作アームチェア「CAUMA chair（カウマチェア）」は、構造の明快さ、効率的な材料使用、そして無垢材の自然な美しさを兼ね備えています。

「少ない要素で最大限の機能を生み出す」という考えのもと、無垢材のフレームと成形合板のシートシェルを組み合わせています。側面から見るとA字を描くシンプルな馬脚構造を採用し、少ない部材で堅牢な構造と効率的な材料使用を実現しています。

開放感のあるフレームに別売のシートクッションを組み合わせることで、軽やかな印象と快適な座り心地を両立。構造そのものをデザインの一部として表現しながら、木の自然な美しさを活かした静かで建築的な佇まいは、住宅空間はもちろん、ホテルやラウンジ、公共空間など、さまざまなシーンに自然と調和します。

家具、素材研究、建築を横断して活動するCarlo Clopathは、機能性・明快さ・持続可能性を軸に、自然素材への深い理解と丁寧なものづくりを大切にしています。CAUMA chairは、そのデザイン思想を体現した一脚です。

Ryokan Ohana / ARIAKE COLLECTION

Nestled in Fukuoka, Ryokan Ohana is recognized as an important cultural heritage site. Originally constructed during the Edo period as the residence of the Tachibana family, the lords of the Yanagawa Domain, this historic building has now been artfully converted into a traditional Ryokan.

In this stunning environment, the Blest Chair by Anderssen & Voll, the Carved Chair by Staffan Holm, and the Elements Table by Shin Azumi were elegantly captured in photographs.

福岡に佇む柳川藩主立花邸御花は、重要文化財に指定されています。江戸時代に柳川藩主・立花家の邸宅として建てられたこの歴史的建造物は、現在では芸術的な手法で伝統的な旅館へと改装されています。

この素晴らしい空間の中で、Anderssen & Voll 氏による「ブレストチェア」、Staffan Holm 氏による「カーヴドチェア」、そして安積伸氏による「エレメンツテーブル」が、写真に美しく収められています。

Particular attention has been paid to the refined connection between the armrests and the legs, highlighting the precision of Japanese craftsmanship.

Braid Sofa / ARIAKE COLLECTION

Designed by Copenhagen-based Norm Architects, the Braid Sofa brings together elements of traditional Japanese architecture and Danish furniture craftsmanship.

The woven armrests, combining slender wooden slats with paper cord, draw inspiration from classical bamboo architecture and the patterns of tatami, while also reflecting the tradition of Danish craftsmanship. Its deep, low proportions create a relaxed and spacious atmosphere, while the beautifully crafted back structure allows the sofa to sit naturally against a wall or stand freely in the center of a room.

The paper cord weaving adds a distinctive character when viewed from the front, evoking both Scandinavian furniture traditions and the quiet materiality of a Japanese tatami room.

コペンハーゲンを拠点とするデザインスタジオ、Norm ArchitectsによるBraid Sofa。
細木とペーパーコードを編み込んだ背面と肘掛けは、古典的な竹建築や畳の模様から着想を得ながら、伝統的なデンマークの家具づくりの要素を組み合わせてデザインされています。

深く低いプロポーションが、ゆったりとした落ち着きのある空間をつくり出し、美しい背面の構造は壁際に置いても、空間の中央に置いても印象的な佇まいを見せます。

正面から見ると、ペーパーコードの繊細な編み込みが独特の表情を生み出し、北欧のペーパーコード家具と日本の和室を思わせる素材感がひとつのソファに調和しています。

Sori Chair / ARIAKE COLLECTION

Designed by KEIJI ASHIZAWA DESIGN for ARIAKE, the Sori Chair reinterprets the traditional wooden chair through a refined and functional form.

By connecting the front and rear legs, the chair glides gently over tatami and carpet while helping to protect the floor. This simple yet thoughtful construction also allows the chairs to be stacked. Carefully tapered legs create a continuous line flowing from the backrest to the front legs, giving the chair a light and graceful appearance. Its distinctive silhouette, reminiscent of a traditional sled, inspired the name “Sori.”

The setting is the Washi Room by 名尾手すき和紙, where the walls, ceiling, and floor are all finished with Japanese washi paper.

ソリチェア / アリアケコレクション

Sori Chairは、畳やカーペットの上でも床への負担を抑えながら、スタッキングできるシンプルな椅子として、KEIJI ASHIZAWA DESIGN によってデザインされました。

前脚と後脚をつなぐ構造は、床を滑らかに移動できると同時に、軽やかな佇まいを生み出しています。背もたれから前脚へと一筆書きのようにつながる細く削り出したラインは、日本の木工技術の繊細さを感じさせます。その姿がまるで「そり」のように見えることから、「Sori Chair」と名付けられました。

写真は、他のARIAKE COLLECTIONの家具、Monica Förster Design Studio がデザインした Hinode Table と組み合わせて撮影されました。

撮影は名尾手すき和紙の「和紙の部屋」で行われました。天井・壁・床のすべてが和紙で仕上げられた、素材の美しさを静かに感じられる空間です。

While its silhouette appears simple at first glance, the chair is defined by carefully considered details. Classical and contemporary joinery come together with elegant curves and a slender frame, expressing the precision of Japanese woodworking techniques. The bent plywood backrest, reinforced seat construction, and thoughtfully proportioned armrests contribute to both exceptional comfort and everyday functionality.

Balancing skilled handcraft with advanced machining, the ARIAKE Chair reflects the dialogue between designer and maker. The Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten Fukuoka Tenjin Store, the brand's largest flagship store in the Kyushu region, is located in ONE FUKUOKA BLDG. Gen Chair 01 (Gc 01) and Gen Table 02 (Gt 02) from the Hirata Gen Collection have been incorporated into the interior.

With the concept of "Kyushu's Touch and the Japanese Lifestyle," the store serves as a hub for showcasing the materials, techniques, and craftsmanship nurtured by Kyushu's rich natural environment and rooted in traditional Japanese living.
