KITAMURA MAKURA We've been producing original pillows and other related items of our own brand since 1923 here in Japan. "Makura" is a direct Japanese translation for "Pillow".

With almost 10 decades of history, our passion keeps growing to bring fulfilling and enriching sleep to all the people in the world. But as you may all know, "Pillow" in English means not just bed pillows but cushions and other squishy items you use on a couch and places. On the other hand, "Makura" means strictly bed pillows in Japanese. That is why we call our pillows Makura. We see Makura as a

tool to sleep not just one of the bedding items you can slump back onto. We have started our business originally as a cotton sheets wholesaler in 1923 and now specialize in producing originally designed pillows and other sleep-related products. Throughout our history, we have sold more than 720,000 pillows domestically and started to sell in Asian countries like Hong Kong and Malaysia recent years. All of our pillows have very uniquely designed bean shape and four kinds of beads and pipes for filling which create the height difference and curves to keep ideal sleeping posture and to help easy rollovers during sleep. Our primary goal is to bring the world the fresh start with cheerful "Good Morning" !

Our Story

In 1923, Our founder, Sadakichi Kitamura started his business originally as a cotton sheets wholesaler in Nagoya, Aichi. Since then, we have inherited the art of craftsmanship over four generations and now the fourth president, Keisuke Kitamura carries on the passion of the ancestors. Now we specialize in pillow designing and manufacturing to bring the world the better sleep. Throughout the history of almost 100 years, we have sold 720,000 and more pillows here in Japan. Now, our market is spreading out to the world starting Hong Kong, Malaysia, PRC, and the United States. Our primary goal is to bring the world the fresh start with cheerful "Good Morning" !

"Makura" is metaphrase for "Pillow". But as far as we studied, Pillow in English means not just bed pillows but cushions you use on a couch and places. On the other hand, Makura in Japanese means strictly bed pillows . That is why we call our pillows Makura. We see Makura as a tool to sleep not just one of the bedding items you can slump back onto.
