Visiting the village of Serramonacesca is like stepping back in time. Nestled in the foothills of the Maiella mountains, Casa Olivia is just 20 minutes from a ski resort and 40 minutes from the sea. With two bars and a famous abbey, it is so Italian you expect Al Pacino to walk by any minute, humming that tune – you know the one I mean… Still re

latively undiscovered (unlike Tuscany), we have been overwhelmed by the warmth, generosity and friendliness of the local people, often finding eggs, water melons, beans etc on our doorstep. The house is in the tiny hamlet of Garifoli, about half a mile from the village of Serramonacesca. It comfortably sleeps 6 people with three bedrooms. Recently completely renovated, we have worked hard to retain the character of this ancient Maiella stone property that once housed the curate of the famous San Liberatore Abbey.The floors are stone and terracotta; there are wooden ceilings and newly fitted shuttered windows. There are three pretty bedrooms, one sizeable family shower room and one en-suite bathroom. Two of the bedrooms have a double bed, one has two single beds. The kitchen has been tastefully restored, and fitted with modern appliances (fridge, freezer, gas hob and electric oven.) There is also a washing machine and gas central heating. The characterful dining room has a vaulted wooden ceiling, and the living room has an open log fire, a DVD player and a selection of DVDs. The stone floor boasts flags taken from the San Liberatore abbey. A door opens onto the terrace with spectacular views over the Italian rolling hills and distant Maiella mountains. There is a barbecue on the terrace for Summer al fresco dining, an outside table, ample chairs and a large parasol to protect you from the Italian sun. There is also an area next to the house of dappled shade, perfect for snoozing at Siesta time. The garden gently slopes away with olive, walnut and persimon trees and there is a private drive with ample parking. Nearby Activities:

Lo spettacolare Eremo di Sant'Onofrio al Morrone che domina Sulmona (Aq) è risultato primo nella graduatoria speciale “Italia sopra i 600 metri” dei Luoghi del cuore ❤️ promosso dal FAI - Fondo Ambiente Italiano, raccogliendo oltre 22.000 preferenze e classificandosi al nono posto a livello nazionale.
Grazie al contributo si potrà avviare l’iter per il restauro degli affreschi trecenteschi della ca****la e la messa in sicurezza dell’accesso alla grotta.
