Briccole di Venezia | Progetto Maré

Decking, pavimenti, arredi, scale e pergolati realizzati con legno recuperato dalle briccole del mare di Venezia, in un progetto che unisce materia, luogo e identità.

“Tra molo e mare nasce Maré: un equilibrio naturale, fatto di grandi vetrate, legno dentro e fuori, dettagli mediterranei e atmosfere senza tempo. Un luogo che sembra essere sempre esistito, perfettamente inserito nel suo contesto.” — MFDesign

All’interno, pavimenti in tavole a tre strati con dimensioni variabili, ideali anche per il riscaldamento a pavimento. All’esterno, tavole massicce inchiodate, progettate per resistere alla forza del mare e alle mareggiate invernali.

Abbiamo curato ogni dettaglio: pergolati con travi verniciate di bianco, scale con gradini sospesi, arredi e terrazze. Un progetto dove il legno, restituito dal mare, torna a vivere sul mare.

Venetian Briccole | Maré Project

Decking, flooring, furniture, stairs, and pergolas crafted from reclaimed wood from Venetian sea mooring posts, in a project where material and place become one.

Indoors, three-layer wooden floors with variable plank sizes, perfectly suited for underfloor heating. Outdoors, solid planks, nailed to withstand the force of the sea and winter storms.

We designed every detail: pergolas with white-painted beams, suspended staircases, furnishings, and terraces. A project where wood reclaimed from the sea finds new life by the sea.

Mansarda in Larice

La mansarda si trasforma in una camera da letto luminosa ed essenziale, dove il larice antico diventa il vero protagonista.

Travi e tavole del controsoffitto sono realizzate in larice antico di prima patina, cerato bianco, mentre pareti e pavimenti sono rivestiti in larice antico di seconda patina, sbiancato e rifinito a cera. Un equilibrio materico che esalta la luce naturale e valorizza ogni dettaglio.

Le pareti integrano elementi su misura — copritermosifoni, armadiature, tavolo da lavoro e cassettiere — tutti realizzati nello stesso legno, per garantire continuità visiva e funzionale. Un progetto sviluppato su misura a Belluno, dove estetica e praticità convivono in modo armonico.

Attic in Larch | Custom Bedroom Project

The attic is transformed into a bright and refined bedroom, where antique larch takes center stage.

Beams and ceiling panels are crafted from first-patina antique larch with a white wax finish, while walls and flooring feature second-patina antique larch, whitewashed and waxed. A balanced combination that enhances natural light and highlights the material’s character.

The walls integrate custom-made elements — radiator covers, wardrobes, a workspace, and drawers — all crafted from the same wood to ensure visual and functional continuity. A bespoke project developed in Belluno, where design and practicality coexist seamlessly.

After 15 years, the brightness and white tone remain unchanged, with no yellowing, confirming the lasting quality and timeless appeal of antique wood, even in contemporary interiors.

📐 Conosci il parquet | Ep. 1 — I tipi di parquet
Il vero parquet è realizzato con elementi in legno naturale – tavole o listoni – disposti in modo ordinato per creare una superficie continua e armoniosa.
Le principali tipologie sono due:
🪵 Parquet massiccio (massello) Le tavole sono ricavate da un unico pezzo di legno nobile. È la soluzione più tradizionale: autentica, naturale e capace di durare nel tempo grazie alla possibilità di essere levigata più volte.
🔲 Parquet prefinito multistrato (3 strati) È composto da tre strati di legno incollati tra loro , la parte visibile è costituita da una cartella di legno nobile di almeno 4 mm di spessore, la controbilanciatura è costituita da due strati , solitamente di abete, con fibra incrociata.
In MFDesign proponiamo entrambe le soluzioni rispettando le condizioni di cantiere ( es. in presenza di riscaldamento a pavimento non consigliamo il parquet massiccio)
⚠️ E il laminato? Spesso viene citato tra i parquet, ma non lo è: è un rivestimento sintetico che imita l’aspetto del legno composto uno strato superficiale protettivo (resina melaminica resistente a graffi e usura) , un foglio decorativo stampato che riproduce la venatura del legno, un pannello di HDF a supporto
✨ Quale scegliere? Non esiste una risposta unica: se desiderate calore, sostenibilità, possibilità di ripristino ,unicità allora scegliete il legno, se pensate ad un prodotto economico scegliete il laminato

📐 Get to Know Parquet | Ep. 1 — Types of Parquet

Real parquet is made of natural wood elements – boards or planks – arranged in an orderly way to create a continuous and harmonious surface.

The main types are two:

🪵 Solid Parquet (Solid Wood)
The boards are made from a single piece of noble wood. It is the most traditional solution: authentic, natural, and able to last over time thanks to the possibility of being sanded and restored several times.

🔲 Engineered Prefinished Parquet (3-layer)
It is composed of three layers of wood glued together. The visible surface consists of a noble wood layer at least 4 mm thick, while the balancing structure is made of two additional layers, usually spruce, with crossed grain to ensure stability.

At MFDesign, we offer both solutions while always respecting the conditions of the construction site (for example, in the presence of underfloor heating, solid parquet is generally not recommended).

⚠️ What about laminate?
It is often mentioned among parquet floors, but it actually isn’t. Laminate is a synthetic flooring that imitates the look of wood and is composed of:
• a protective surface layer (melamine resin resistant to scratches and wear)
• a decorative printed sheet that reproduces wood grain
• an HDF core panel for support

✨ Which one should you choose?
There is no single answer: if you want warmth, sustainability, uniqueness, and the possibility of restoration, choose real wood. If you are looking for a more budget-friendly solution, laminate may be the right choice.

Mountain Home in Borca di Cadore | Antique Oak Project

A project where antique oak is the main feature.
For this mountain home, we used reclaimed oak from an old farmhouse in the Po Valley, not only for floors but also for paneling, ceilings, and furnishings. The client wanted to enjoy the scent of the wood and be embraced by its warmth throughout the home.

We assisted the owner in selecting wall and ceiling coverings and custom-made furniture for the kitchen, bathroom, living room, and bedrooms, always using unfinished wood to achieve a natural and timeless result.

✨ Rovere Vecchio a Modena ✨
Un appartamento dove il legno racconta una storia.
Per la realizzazione di questi pavimenti e della scala abbiamo utilizzato rovere vecchio recuperato da antiche travi provenienti da casali della Pianura Padana.

La cliente ha scelto una tonalità leggermente grey, ideale per prevenire l’ingiallimento e preservare nel tempo l’eleganza naturale del legno. Lo stesso materiale è stato impiegato per pedate e pianerottoli, creando continuità e armonia tra pavimento e scala. I parapetti in cristallo alleggeriscono la struttura, valorizzando la matericità del rovere.

Un progetto che unisce recupero, sostenibilità ed estetica, trasformando un legno antico in un elemento contemporaneo e raffinato.

An apartment where wood tells a story.
The flooring and staircase were crafted using old oak salvaged from antique beams sourced from farmhouses in the Po River Valley.

The client selected a slightly grey tone, perfect for preventing yellowing and preserving the wood’s natural elegance over time. The same oak was used for the staircase treads and landings, ensuring visual continuity and harmony throughout the space. Glass railings add lightness and contrast, enhancing the texture and character of the reclaimed wood.

A project that blends heritage, sustainability, and refined design, transforming reclaimed timber into a contemporary architectural feature.

Questo appartamento è stato completamente rinnovato per creare un’atmosfera cortinese autentica ed elegante, dove rovere antico e abete antico di prima patina si incontrano in perfetto equilibrio.

I pavimenti in rovere, posati a spina di pesce francese con larghezze irregolari, dialogano con soffitti e boiserie in abete recuperato, restaurato e riutilizzato. Un progetto sartoriale, pensato per fondere estetica, funzionalità e comfort.
Le pareti attrezzate integrano impianti, illuminazione e arredi; le porte si fondono nella boiserie; ogni mobile — dal bagno alle camere — è stato realizzato su misura, così come vetri, specchi e porte incorniciati nello stesso legno.

A small gem in the heart of the Pearl of the Dolomites.
This apartment has been fully renovated to create an authentic and refined Cortina atmosphere, where antique oak and first-patina antique fir come together in perfect harmony.

The antique oak floors, laid in a French herringbone pattern with irregular widths, blend seamlessly with ceilings and wall paneling made of reclaimed fir wood, carefully restored and reused. A bespoke project where aesthetics, functionality, and comfort coexist.
Integrated wall systems conceal lighting, electrical and heating installations, while doors disappear into the boiserie. All furnishings — from bathroom units to bedroom furniture — were custom-made, including glass elements, mirrors, and doors framed in fir wood.

MILANO – Appartamento stile classico con pavimenti e scala in rovere antico

Per il pavimento di questo prestigioso appartamento in zona centrale a Milano è stata scelta una composizione a disegno in rovere antico. Architetto e cliente hanno ricercato uno stile classico ed elaborato, capace di dialogare con un’abitazione contemporanea.

L’appartamento è impreziosito da una bellissima scala interna rivestita con alzata e pedata in rovere antico. Gradino dopo gradino, il toro è stato modellato e arrotondato per seguire la struttura della scala, ottenendo un risultato armonioso ed esteticamente appagante.

Lungo il perimetro dei pavimenti e nei passaggi tra una stanza e l’altra sono state realizzate cornici di delimitazione, utilizzando le tavole più scure. Per sua stessa natura, il rovere antico presenta numerose stonalizzazioni, che ne esaltano autenticità e carattere. Completa l’opera una finitura a cera con fragranza ai fiori di loto.

MILAN – Classic-style apartment with antique oak floors and staircase

For the flooring of this prestigious apartment in central Milan, a custom-pattern composition in antique oak was selected. Both architect and client sought a refined, classic style able to blend seamlessly with a modern home.

The apartment is enhanced by a beautiful internal staircase, fully clad with antique oak risers and treads. Step by step, each bullnose edge was shaped and rounded to follow the staircase structure, achieving a harmonious and visually pleasing result.

Along the floor perimeter and in the transitions between rooms, decorative borders were created using darker boards. By its very nature, antique oak features natural tonal variations that enhance its authenticity and character. The project is completed with a wax finish scented with lotus flowers.

Cinque mesi per un’opera d’arte!

Tanto è il tempo di lavoro necessario delle nostre maestranze per realizzare questo capolavoro.
Siamo partiti dalla ricerca di almeno 60 tronchi di castagno, che già trattati con abbondante acqua per perdere il loro naturale contenuto di tannino, già listellati per la naturale stagionatura, hanno potuto entrare nel nostro essiccatoio per un trattamento naturale antitarlo (senza prodotti chimici) e per raggiungere un’umidità consona per essere installati in una prestigiosa showroom di alta moda, situata in una famosa località sciistica in Colorado.

Tutti i tronchi di castagno sono stati svuotati a mano con uso di motosega dai nostri abili artigiani, li hanno scolpiti uno ad uno creando tra di loro un legame di incastri naturali, lo hanno trasformato in un unico grande albero di 12 metri lineari di circonferenza, di 3,5 metri lineari di altezza.

Contemporaneamente è stata assemblata la panca su cui l’albero va inserito, costruita utilizzando 8 metri cubi di quercia che è stata assemblata affinché si possano rimirare le teste dei segati, e poi lavorata ricreando il disegno dell’Architetto, che ha ideato questa forma unica nel suo genere.

L’insieme degli elementi ricopre una superficie di 36 mq, è stato assemblato tre volte per verificare che tutto fosse al posto giusto ed infine sia l’albero che la panca sono stati levigati a mano per ottenere al tatto una finitura vellutata; la panca, sulla sua superficie, è stata poi piallata con un effetto di “pietra consumata dal cammino”.

Il tutto è poi stato trattato con un olio naturale nero come richiesto dall’ambientazione in cui l’opera verrà collocata.
Prima della partenza ogni pezzo è stato numerato al fine di rendere possibile una posa in loco senza problemi.

Questa realizzazione rappresenta solo una delle tante soluzioni completamente personalizzate che possiamo offrire, sviluppate su richiesta e progettate su misura in base al contesto, all’architettura e alla visione del cliente.

Five months for a work of art!

Five months of craftsmanship were required to create this masterpiece. The project began with the selection of at least 60 chestnut trunks, previously treated with abundant water to reduce their natural tannin content and cut into sections for natural seasoning. The wood was then placed in our kiln for a natural anti-woodworm treatment (without chemical products) and brought to the ideal moisture level for installation in a prestigious high-fashion showroom, located in a renowned ski resort in Colorado.

All chestnut trunks were hollowed out by hand using chainsaws by our skilled artisans and sculpted one by one, creating natural interlocking joints. Together, they were transformed into a single monumental tree measuring 12 linear meters in circumference and 3.5 meters in height.

At the same time, the bench designed to host the tree was assembled using 8 cubic meters of oak, constructed to showcase the cross-sections of the sawn timber and then shaped according to the architect’s design, who conceived this truly unique form.

The entire installation covers an area of 36 square meters and was assembled three times to ensure everything fit perfectly. Both the tree and the bench were then hand-sanded to achieve a soft, velvety finish. The bench surface was finally planed to recreate the effect of “stone worn smooth by time and footsteps.”

The entire piece was treated with a natural black oil, as required by the environment in which the artwork will be placed.
Before shipping, each element was numbered to allow for a smooth and precise on-site installation.

This creation represents just one of the many fully customized solutions we can offer, developed on request and tailor-made according to the setting, architecture and the client’s vision.
