Officina Antiquaria Milano

Officina Antiquaria Milano Design gallery specialized in 20th century originals and antiques, located in the heart of Milan.

Gianfranco Frattini for Cassina
Italy, circa 1965

A sculptural bentwood coffee table with three turned legs and a floating cut-glass top — an elegant example of Frattini’s ability to merge architectural precision with warmth and fluidity.

Born in Padua and trained at the Politecnico di Milano, Frattini worked in the studio of Gio Ponti before opening his own practice in the 1950s. Like many of the great figures of postwar Italian design, he approached furniture as an extension of architecture: attentive, measured, and deeply connected to everyday life.

“L’attenzione determina gesti d’amore.”
Attention determines gestures of love.

That philosophy runs quietly through Frattini’s work — objects designed not only to function beautifully, but to live beautifully with others.

FONTANA ARTE, 1940’s

A rare statement piece by Fontana Arte — where Italian modernism meets sculptural elegance.
Designed and produced in Milan in the 1940s by FX Produzione for Fontana Arte, this exceptional walnut console desk embodies the refined restraint and craftsmanship that defined the golden era of Italian design. The gracefully contoured silhouette, beveled mirrored top, and contrasting blond maple drawer create a balance of softness, geometry, and quiet luxury that feels remarkably contemporary today.
Every angle reveals thoughtful proportions and architectural detail — from the winged edges to the finely integrated drawer pulls — making it equally compelling as a writing desk, vanity, or entrance console.

Paolo Buffa (1903–1970)
A leading figure of Milanese design, Paolo Buffa trained at the Politecnico di Milano and began his career in the studio of Gio Ponti, whose influence shaped his early architectural discipline. Soon establishing his own practice, Buffa developed a distinctive language blending neoclassical rigor and modernist clarity.

Working with the finest Lombard artisans—most notably Angelo Marelli, whose workshop realized many of his designs—Buffa achieved a synthesis of architectural proportion and exquisite craftsmanship.
His furniture, elegant in line and meticulously detailed, reflects the refined domestic landscape of postwar Italy: discreet luxury, tactile materials, and timeless balance.
