IT’S GIVING PLAY + PLEASURE.
(ON A DESIGN ICON) 🖤
Not every design object is made to behave properly.
Joe — designed in 1970 by De Pas, D’Urbino, Lomazzi for Poltronova — transforms a baseball glove into an oversized domestic sculpture somewhere between Pop Art, furniture and visual provocation.
Presented here in vintage leather upholstery, Joe continues to embody the experimental and ironic spirit that has always defined Poltronova’s vision: radical objects designed not only to be used, but to generate interaction, emotion and unexpected relationships with space.
Half furniture, half statement piece.Still playful. Still disruptive. Still impossible to ignore.
Joe is a large armchair in the shape of a baseball glove mounted on invisible wheels. Inspired by the poetics of Pop Art and dedicated to baseball legend Joe DiMaggio, the project transforms an everyday object into an inhabitable sculptural form through a bold shift in scale.
For the fiftieth anniversary of Joe, Poltronova introduced Joe Ball: a leather pouf and footrest shaped like a baseball, designed by D’Urbino and Lomazzi in 2020 as the natural complement to the original armchair.
